It's not just harry potter. I see it frequently in skyline and other shots of the city in lots of different British television shows. It's a distinctive building, and your reasons for disliking it are not clear here.
People always pick the new, shiny one. I bet New Yorkers would choose One World Trade Center as their favorite if poled today, when the correct answer is, and always has been, the Chrysler Building.
I kinda like the Gherkin. It's interesting enough, and it makes me laugh. Not as hard as the "walkie-talkie" makes me laugh, but it's a more flattering laughter.
Screw Harry Potter. Everyone knows the Gherkin was the headquarters for Torchwood and was ground zero for the battle between the Daliks and Cybermen. Get your facts straight Charles.
I like it. It has a futuristic look to it. And I love the photoshopped pic
Where was it featured in the HP HBP movie? I've seen the movie a lot of times but I only remember the Millennium Bridge. Mostly because I walked along it two years ago.
Prince Charles probably goes out of his way not to see this monstrosity and I would too, if a Londoner. The buildings that comprise the Tower of London are evocative of the culture, after 700 years; this thing will be even more ludicrous 5 years from now.
You're whack, Mudede. The Gherkin is beautiful! Poetry in glass, metal, and concrete. I want to buy it, make its top few floors my evil London lair, and rent the rest out to artists on a sliding scale.
If the majority were allowed to design a city, it would be Disneyworld.

Far more attractive than the modern buildings Gehry and, especially, Koolhaas, dumped on us.
Foster is also the architect of one of my favorite bridges.
Plus, who wouldn't have a soft spot for a building known as the Erotic Gherkin?
