Can you clarify the last sentence in the schools paragraph? It makes my head hurt.

@1:
Me too!
3
@1, 2) Thanks and fixed--hopefully it's in English now.

The sheer amount of dickishness to fake a bomb at the Boston Marathon is awe-inspiring, and at a level I am not sure I can fully comprehend.

That guy is in for a few years of savage ass beatings. He really should just leave Boston at this point.

In lighter bomb news, the 49ers' star pass rusher Aldon Smith is being booked on bomb hoax charges after he claimed he had a bomb at LAX. The guy is a raging alcoholic and was drunk at the time.

The sheer amount of dickishness to arrest a guy for having a rice cooker in a backpack is awe-inspiring, and at a level I am not sure I can fully comprehend.

#5: I'm sorry, but law enforcement's douchiness doesn't mean the guy's not a douche. One's douchiness isn't determined by the relative douchiness of someone else.
7
What the guy did is the equivalent of shouting fire in a crowded movie theater.
8
@5: They did not arrest him for owning a rice cooker. They are charging him for putting on a hoax which caused serious disruptions in the running of the city, and at a cost to taxpayer.

So I guess you figure people calling in false bomb threats should not be charged with a crime? I mean hey, they were only talking on the phone. Same with people who make hoax 911 calls and tie up the system. Just talking on the phone, nothing illegal about that, right?

The state lottery was supposed to fill the gap in public education. Theoretically, it should have - but it all went into the general fund.
10
Did he yell fire? Did he even say he had a bomb? No, he said he had a rice cooker.

And what people are charged with often has little to do with there actions.

The fact is that this person was arrested for having a rice cooker in a backpack.

@5, douchus is probably one of those guys tweeting dozens of bomb threats at American Airlines, cackling and high-fiving, in imitation of that stupid Dutch girl.

Boeing has been on a downward slope since the McDonnell Douglass jackasses bought it and took it to Chicago. I'm seriously afraid for the company, once one of the best in America and the world, now one of the worst. Bad airplane companies don't just piss off their workers; they kill people.

I don't have twitter, sorry Will in Seattle's bosom buddy.

There goes the "bridge to clean energy":

The identification and quantification of methane emissions from natural gas production has become increasingly important owing to the increase in the natural gas component of the energy sector. An instrumented aircraft platform was used to identify large sources of methane and quantify emission rates in southwestern PA in June 2012. A large regional flux, 2.0–14 g CH4 s−1 km−2, was quantified for a ∌2,800-km2 area, which did not differ statistically from a bottom-up inventory, 2.3–4.6 g CH4 s−1 km−2. Large emissions averaging 34 g CH4/s per well were observed from seven well pads determined to be in the drilling phase, 2 to 3 orders of magnitude greater than US Environmental Protection Agency estimates for this operational phase. The emissions from these well pads, representing ∌1% of the total number of wells, account for 4–30% of the observed regional flux. More work is needed to determine all of the sources of methane emissions from natural gas production, to ascertain why these emissions occur and to evaluate their climate and atmospheric chemistry impacts.

i.e. Methane emissions from gas drilling are 100 to 1000 greater than claimed by the EPA.
14
omg douchus you're dumb.
16
@10 so just to be clear, you're arguing that the police response to a potential copycat was completely unwarranted and that the context of what he was carrying should have no bearing how the authorities should have reacted?
18
@17: The linked article suggests that a cop confronted him for having a backpack, and he said that it had a rice cooker in it, then dropped it on the ground. Is there another article with more information on how this is a "hoax"? I mean, if the guy was trying to imply he had a bomb, fuck him, but if he got confronted because he was behaving drunkenly on Patriot's Day, and he told the truth about what was in the bag, I'm not clear what the issue is.

Please wait...
