@1 Yes! The enduros in Riverhead were the best part of summer! My friends raced and I helped them get their beaters ready for the action. Where on the Island are you from?
Perfect question for the now-dead Questionland that the Stranger supported. I think a demo derby question was even asked there. But that all data is gone for good and we all pretend it never even existed...
My favourite is the Distraction Derby which I see every time I go onto Seattle's streets and watch people in cars stare at cellphones as they sometimes miss other people and/or cars (who may themselves be staring at phones).
Kitsap Destruction Derby is a hoot! http://www.kitsapdestructionderby.com/
It's a family event that includes a stuffed-animal toss between races, and a chance to go down to the dirt to get up close to the cars as they are towed away
So. Ozone Park in Queens (which some do, and some don't think of as part of Long Island!) My Dad would drive us out to the races on the occasional weekend.
Every year on Christmas morning for the past nine years on a frozen field at a dairy farm in Baldwin Wisconsin the Vrieze family has held an awesome derby. I've been there the past two years. The 2013 theme was DUkes of Hazard - at least 35 cars and at least 3 where in flames at the end.
