Well certainly now Oklahoma will become a worldwide hub of commerce and innovation, since the only thing standing in its way were those evil cities and their higher wages.

I always like to take the 'states rights' arguments these loons always spout when they want local autonomy from control in Washington DC, and bump those arguments up side by side with their top-down, authoritarian centralization of power they exercise from their red state capitol to keep their blue cities toeing the line.

The don't really believe what they say they believe. They just want the power to run things their way.

@2 - both side do this on some issues...it is almost always entirely dependent on who has the control of the levers at the top. I'm an unapologetic progressive but our side switches sides on the state's rights (local experimental control) issue just as often as the right wing does.
4
@2: Yeah. The federal government exerting its rightful power over matters under its purview is seen as tyrannical, but they have no compunction against state governments depriving municipal governments of their legislative authority.
5
@3,

Our side doesn't have "states' rights" as a fundamental political plank.

Meinert and Friedman are going to open some nice fancy restaurants in Oklahoma and Boswell is going to make a killing as their wine steward.
7
@5 -we don't call it that by name, but we work our asses off to protect the right of states to be more activist on some issues, particularly when the federal levers are attempting to protect exploitation (or people, resources, etc.),

I think of the EPA and clean air under GWB and the attempts to attack CA emissions standards and prevent other states from adopting their own.

Looking at the insane $15 Now situation here, I'm not surprised that states see the intractability & inflexibility of these irrational job-killers and are working to beat them to the punch.

They kinda brought this on themselves.
9
@8 Gov Fallin is that you?

Freedom!

@8,

While I disagree with Meinert, nothing that he's said or done on the $15 minimum wage issue makes me disinclined to patronize his businesses, largely because I don't think he's necessarily a shitty person. You, on the other hand, are a useless fuckstick. I used to patronize Liberty on occasion; I won't be repeating that mistake.
12
@8

A three year phase in period for small businesses under 250 employees was not part of 15Now's original proposal. Do you know what allowed 15Now to accept that concession?

Flexibility, fucknuts. Or fuckstick. Which do you go by? Fucking fuck was cool back in the day. You should bring it back.
13
15now 3 year phase in means= We are ok with 5years as a landing spot fyi.. Also note that the SEIU President David Rolf disagrees with 15now's charter amendment because it conflicts with the task force's recommendation to the Mayor(which he and Kshama Sawant are part of) why? unless he thinks that putting it to a vote prematurely could kill the measure all-together. Make no mistake that 15now is funded and takes it marching orders from the SEIU Union so the rift being created will be good for business owners in the end & MW employee's. Imagine that

@11

Friedman comes across as the type of restauranteur who would spit in your food if you've disappointed him. Hope Anna Minard doesn't go back to his restaurants. Kshama Sawant should never consume anything that he or his people offer her, like at a negotiation meeting or something.

@14

I'm thinking he's trying to sabotage his own reputation by being the biggest dick he can, so when his joint fails he can pretend it was all political and not his own fuckup.

I mean how many of these "job creators" bleating about personal responsibility walk the walk? All you ever hear from those guys is how everything is somebody else's fault.

The only thing self-proclaimed "conservatives" in Oklahoma love more than big government is even BIGGER government...ahem, so long as you lie and say that you don't, regardless of the mountain of evidence to the contrary.

Please wait...
