If anyone prehistoric saved humans it was Mitochondrial Eve:

"the matrilineal most recent common ancestor (MRCA) of all currently living anatomically modern humans, who is estimated to have lived approximately 100,000–200,000 years ago. This is the most recent woman from whom all living humans today descend, on their mother’s side, and through the mothers of those mothers, and so on, back until all lines converge on one person."

Sorry, but it irks me whenever I hear that mankind came from Africa: unless there was a pregnant Eve along for the trek, nope.

And hey, Y-chromosomal Adam isn't even the father of us all: such as "some Cameroonians and one African American, who did not inherit their Y from that "Adam"

Mitochondrial Eve Saves Humans: that's the comic I want to read.
