Just donated $100. Good work increasing awareness.
2
The Washington State Combined Fund Drive might be a good place to donate, too, especially if you work for the state.

My one memory of driving the Arlington-Darrington Road past Oso was going to the Darrington Classic Rock Festival which used to be held every summer during the mid-2000s.

It was like my Woodstock...a 3 day concert of old classic rock groups that were rounded up and put on stage in some dusty fields.

My mistake was thinking that "camping" meant tents. Around here it means big rigs that belch fumes from propane heaters...fumes that seeped into my tent. My space a parking space. Like Woodstock the first day the number of Portapotties needed was severely underestimated, leading to some of the most disgusting sights and smells in my life.

As in most cases when I try to blend in with the people of the Northwest, I find that they all know each other already. This always happens to me. I go to a football game, thinking, I'm just a face in the crowd, and immediately the looks are -- who is this guy? We all rode in together from Auburn...like we've been doing for the last 30 years!

The music was great, especially the bigger name acts. During the 2000s, I went to many classic rock concerts, thinking this was my last chance to see these groups alive. I made sure to pick ones that still had "juice", not just shells of shells. Darrington was hot, dirty, loud...it was like the 1970s except everyone was high on beer and liquor instead of drugs.

That's what I remember of Oso then. Driving by it twice to get to the Darrington Classic Rock Festival. I realize this memory is of no use whatsoever to anyone. But there it is.

What percentage of the money I donate to the Red Cross will actually make it to Oso though?
6
@5 - 90.7 percent of Red Cross donations go to the intended recipients, per this independent site:
http://www.charitynavigator.org/index.cf…

And it turns out that's better than United Way of Snoho, where only 80% goes to Oso.

I should have given to Red Cross instead.

Will the Red Cross buy a shiny new Oracle DB system with the donations. They tried to do so with their 9-11 donations. That was the first and last donation to the Red Cross from my dumb ass.

Just a note... The CEO of the Red Cross earns over $400,000 annually. Yep. I have learned to donate locally - that is how you know your funds go, 100 percent, to where they need to go. Don't donate to Goodwill, United Way, Red Cross. Their intentions are great but their CEO's are very well-off. Just my 2 cents. I plan to donate today to the Oso/Darrington Relief Fund and mail a check to: Oso/Darrington Mudslide Relief, 17825 Suite A 59th Avenue NE; Arlington, WA 98223

How can I reach "Mama" who cooks so many meals for the volunteers? I would like to send her some money for the food.

@3 What the fuck does your distorted memory of a rock festival have to do with helping the victims of Oso? Your post is an insult and you should apologize to the people that are trying to help instead of having some flashback to your questionable youth. You are stoned, stupid , a republican and probably all of the above. Go fuck yourself.
