What is a four-time convicted felon (by age 29) doing out on the streets with a gun ?
2
Notice also the distancing of the information that a man is a "crazed gunman" from the information that he is an intimate.
3
and has the gun death fetish cult run out of stories to the point of reposting 6 year old ones ? Maybe these posts have gone into the SLOG bible study syndication system.

Doesn't this little girl know that it's the parent's job to protect the child, not the other way around? She should have fled and saved herself.

Good Morning Charles,
Wow, that is a most extraordinary young heroine. She is strong all right. Bloody sad nonetheless. I respectively disagree with the title of the posting. It's not a gun-crazy country but a mad-crazy man that is the perp. I am fairly certain he obtained the firearm illegally. His behavior is ghastly aberrant. If convicted, the man should never leave prison again. He is a monster.
6
@5, he could be released as early as 2033. First conviction that appears on his record came from an armed robbery when he was 17. Almost stayed out of prison for 4 years until he shot the girlfriend's daughter.

Yeah, this is an old story, but worth reminding what easy access to guns enables.
9
@7

No, it really doesn't. Recycling a seven year old story isn't 'news.'

It's trolling.
10
And Charles did not indicate that it was a 7 year old story in his post about it.

Where there new facts released? No.
Was there any update to the 7 year old story? No.
It's just a 7 year old story that Charles decided to go trolling with.
12
@6,
Oh! I didn't know it was a 7 year old story. I wonder what the fate of the girl was? I guess I could follow up on my own. Thanks.
13
@5

All illegal guns start out as legal guns.

What if gun owners had to buy liability insurance? And proactively lock up their guns? And be trained to know how?
14
@12: As of spring 2011 she's recovering well: http://www.wxyz.com/news/region/detroit/…
@10: Old facts are better than no facts. Remember, a high rate of gun ownership indicates a high rate of suicide in the USA. Remember?

Hey Charles, here's another old story about guns you'll want to link to next: http://nyti.ms/1g3gqlr

#15, lol.

@14
My internet stalker who makes thinly veiled suggestions that I kill myself, you have been answered again and again. Japan and England contradict your claims. Which is why you had to exclude them.

You believe that stalking someone is a rational response when disagreeing with them.

"I promise to stop stalking you if you leave The SLOG and never return."

That is a direct quote from you.

I have an internet stalker.
And my internet stalker likes to make thinly veiled suggestions that I kill myself.
18
@17: BEHOLD THE FRIGHTENING ACCURACY OF MY MYSTICAL AND ARCANE POWERS OF PROGNOSTICATION!
19
@13,
I'm fine with all of that. Just wouldn't know if it was enforcable.

@14
Thanks. Good to know she's alive. Remarkable.
21
@20
Use Google to look up what "exclude" means. Okay? Can you do that?
23
@fairly unbalanced.

You ever heard of 'hyperlinks'? Its a cool new think, where if you click the highlighted text in the story, it will give the full story.

Also, it says in the first line ' 7 year old'.

:sigh:

I remember back in the good old days when right wing fox trolls would at least read the first paragraph before responding with their crazed hyperbole. What happened to those intellectual titans of the right wing?
24
@15 FTW!
25
@23
"Also, it says in the first line ' 7 year old'."

The first line reads "A 7-year-old-girl is being hailed as an "angel from heaven" and a hero for jumping in front of an enraged gunman, who pumped six bullets into the child as she used her body as a shield to save her mother's life."

You left off "girl". Why did you leave off "girl"?
Because the issue is that Charles posted a 7 year old story without indicating that it was 7 years old.
A 7 year old story is not the same as a 7-year-old-girl.

The girl is now 14 years old but the story is 7 years old.

Here, a current story on how crazy we are about guns.
27
Coalition to Stop Gun Violence, one of the websites i monitor for gun violence stories is usually current. this is the first old story they have run. but i will check their links more closely in the future. i will also keep this one up because it is still so tragic.
28
Hey, Gun Fetishists, have you so run out of excuses that all you can say now attack the messenger? C'mon, man. I like the way ChefJoe is asking why this guy was able to get a gun in the first place, but that tomorrow he or one of his pals will be arguing for background free gun shows and LESS regulation as God's command on earth. He was able to get a gun because the Gun Fetish Death Cult demands that he be able to get gun, that's why.
29
@28,
Detroit - already has gun laws that should have prevented the man from owning a gun legally. See what the local police chief says:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/01/03…
Detroit Police Chief James Craig said Detroit would be even more safe if it had -- wait for it -- more guns.

"I think folks, the people who would engage in that foolishness, probably know that there's a number of CPL (Concealed Pistol License) holders running round the streets of in Detroit," Craig said. "Probably not a real good idea."

The police chief, who formerly served as the head of the Portland, Maine police department, said he believes that legal gun owners actually stop violent crime.

"I think it's a deterrent," he added. "Good Americans with CPLs translates into crime reduction, too. I learned that very quickly in the state of Maine. A lot of CPL holders."

At a press conference Thursday, the Detroit News reported, Craig reiterated his belief that arming more Detroiters would make the city safer.

β€œMaine is one of the safest places in America,' he said. "Clearly, suspects knew that good Americans were armed.”

Although Craig supports having more legal gun owners, he has also emphasized confiscating illegal weapons. On Thursday, he said that in Detroit, each time they take an illegal gun off the street, they've likely prevented a robbery or shooting down the line.

God fucking damn it. I have to agree with fairly.unbalanced's comments* in this thread. Do you see what your lack of responsibility has brought me to, Mudede?!

*Except for the post @17, which is of course just his typical lunacy.
31
@29 Looks like he's given up on trying to stem the tide of guns into Detroit after purchase in surrounding communities and states. Chef, you've got your way! More guns! I know you love it. Funny how he has to refer to a low crime state like Maine as his example for the beneficial effects of concealed weapons. Why can't he point to some state with a serious gun violence problem where expanding concealed weapons has led to a comparatively large reduction in gun violence?
32
@31, because states with a "serious gun problem" have fought expanded concealed carry tooth and nail. Keep your eyes on Chicago, though β€” that may change soon.

Please wait...
