Why do the police want to charge him? Don't they know it was just an accident? Why can parents blow the brains of their children out with no consequences while pulling out a gun in a bar fight and killing your friend means you have to go to jail? It is so unfair. Didn't the police know that he was scared and just trying to stand his ground (which is also the law in Texas)?

Dan, start using the hyphen, i.e. "Second-Amendments him to death."

Dan, use the hyphen.

Dan, I'm not going to tell you again.

Mr. Savage, your personal items will be collected and delivered to your residence. Please accompany these security personnel to the door.

The headline - and therefore the mindset - is even wrong in the linked article. "Man Accidentally Shoots Best Friend" should read "Man Negligently Shoots Best Friend" or "Man Needlessly Shoots Best Friend."

Allowing guns in bars makes zero sense. No limits on guns isn't the Second Amendment (even as Scalia has re-written it), it's an example of the NRA lobbying for gun manufacturers and corrupting the political system to serve only one set of interests.

@4: From Texas law (sorry about the spaces, I copy/pasted from page 25 [pdf page 31] of this document: https://www.txdps.state.tx.us/internetfo… )

GC §411.204. NOTICE REQUIRED ON CERTAIN PREMISES.
(a) A business that has a permit or license issued under Chapter 25, 28, 32, 69, or 74, Alcoholic Beverage Code, and that derives 51 percent or more of its income from the sale of alcoholic beverages for on- premises consumption as determined by the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission under Section 104.06, Alcoholic Beverage Code, shall
26 TEXAS CONCEALED HANDGUN LAWS
prominently display at each entrance to the business premises a s ign that complies with the requirements of Subsection (c).
(b) A hospital licensed under Chapter 241, Health and Safety Code, or a nursing home licensed under Chapter 242, Health and Safety Code, shall prominently display at each entrance to the hospital or nursing home, as appropriate, a s ign that complies with the requirements of Subsection (c) other than the requirement that the sign include on its face the number “51”.
(c) The sign required under Subsections (a) and (b) must give notice in both English and Spanish that it is unlawful for a person licensed under this subchapter to carry a handgu n on t he premises. The sign must appear in contrasting colors with block letters at least one inch in height and must include on its face the number “51” printed in solid red at least five inches in height. The sign shall be displayed in a conspicuous manner clearly visible to the public.
(d) A business that has a permit or license issued under the Alcoholic Beverage Code and that is not required to display a s ign under this section may be required to display a sign under Section 11.041 or 61.11, Alcoholic Beverage Code.
(e) This section does not apply to a b usiness that has a f ood and beverage certificate issued under the Alcoholic Beverage Code.

Seems like it was already illegal for him to have the handgun there, though I'm not sure what section (e) means as far as exemptions.

Only thing that stops a good guy without a gun is a good guy with a gun.
7
Yeah, goddamn pussy brings a gun to a barfight. Only weapon permitted in a barfight should be a pool cue. The cue is like the light-saber of barfighting -- a more elegant weapon from a simpler time. Heck, even bars without tables should keep a holster of cues on the ready. Pussy ass gun nuts.

May I just say that I love Mr. Savage's attitude toward language? Instead of whining about what a word should mean or what the rules of English ought to be, he gets up off his butt (figuratively, I mean, I usually type sitting down) and uses the terms he invents in a way that might make them actually catch on. That's how linguistic revisionism should be practiced.

Was Dan writing posts under Goldy's moniker this whole time? I've been giving shit to the wrong guy.

@4-"example of the NRA lobbying for gun manufacturers..."

I think they're not really representing gun manufacturers on this issue. They're really representing their core constituency: violent twerps who lack the courage to engage the world without a killing machine strapped to their body.

Someone's a Gawker fan.

The thing I hated about Goldys posts about guns, was when he used sarcastic comments when it came to incidents in which kids were killed, just so he could take a swipe at the NRA.

Make no mistake, I hate the NRA, but i'm not going to sarcasm and dead kids to prove it. Just how I wont use sexually abused children to take a swipe at the Church. There a right way and a wrong way, so lets not go all Alan Grayson and claim its ok just because Republicans are assholes.

@7: Alright, you made me laugh.
13
I think "2nd amended" rolls off the tongue better.
14
@7: OK, I'm ending this evening's exposure to Slog right now. It can't end on a better note than that.

Headline should have read "Drunk Illegal Alien with Unregistered Gun Kills Fellow Gangbanger."

Please wait...
