My house is decorated with Lego models and I loved the movie. The kids in the audience seemed to adore it, jumping up and down and shouting "spaceship" as we exited the theater.

I liked the message of the movie, that one should play with the toys rather than building them into the one model pictured on the front. When I was younger our motley collection of Legos were built into countless things.

However, the cynic in me could see the toys from the Lego Movie line featured prominently. The $250 pirate ship. All the crazy contraptions built from different Lego themes, but now on the shelf at Target with detailed instructions to build just what was in the movie.

@1 And most of the models for the movie were revealed at the New York Toy Fair this past weekend, including Benny's Spaceship Spaceship! SPACESHIP!!!!! for $70. And as cool as some of the recreated vehicles were at the end of the film, I'd rather make them myself than have the instructions...

I'm with you, Paul. It was a fun film that didn't take itself too seriously but the hype is kind of ridiculous. The usher at the screening I went to said he thought it was the Toy Story of this generation and... no.

I wish I'd liked it more, though.

Almost discourage creativity?

Legos exist as two separate things: something men over 30 geek out over, and a children's toy. Sometimes, if your dad is a huge asshole, the two worlds overlap.

OMG, I can't believe you gave away the ending after warning me only 5 times!!!

Yeah, it was a cute movie. I liked how the contrast between legos as a toy and legos as a nostalgia collector's item was also portrayed as one of the disconnects between adults and children.

I found the "we are all special!!!!" message a bit much, but it was a kids movie.

My friend has a very thick accent. He asked me if I like Eggos. I said yes, he said let's go. We went. No fucking waffles in this movie but it was pretty decent with popcorn.

@6) We ARE all special. Cf. "Everything is AWESOME!!!"

it was a huge mistake in creating the figurines in the first place. blocks remain the best bang for your buck, you can build whatever you can imagine if you have enough bricks. sure they are making money, but at what cost? So i say sure, build star wars, benny's spaceship, harry potter, but do it ENTIRELY with bricks. Now that is a challenge for the kids!!

my two cents
