This has been the despicable strategy of many homophobes and bigots for the last couple years. The idea that they are the victim by virtue of having their views labelled as bigotry.
Seems the Irish homophobes have taken a page out the Russian homophobes' playbook. Criminalize the idea that being gay is a normal orientation for a minority of humans. Criminalize any speech or media that denies the lies of homophobes labeling gays as dangerous predators of children. The only way to fight against this is to call out homophobes for what they are, afraid of homosexuals. This is a good illustration of why LGBTs and our Allies should boycott the Sochi Games and boycott the sponsors. Boycott the media coverage of the Sochi Games. Silence is our enemy. Pretending that boycotts don't matter only allows the homophobes to further their agenda. Make a difference even if the difference is small. Millions of small differences creates a huge difference.
@1 Well, we should immediately stop simply calling them "bigots" or "homophobes." Henceforth, they shall be known as "filthy, disgusting bigots (or homophobes) who anger God by their very existence."
'Tis a pity that broadcaster folded like a cheap card table. Bullies must be stood up to.
A supporter of Seattle's own Kshama Sawant, Irish Socialist Party Member of the European Parliament Paul Murphy made a speech about this and called out the homophobes in the Parliament today.

The double-speak of the bigots is angering, but it won't last. Thank you, Panti and Dónal.
Go on Ireland. Vote and join the right side of history. Some year soon the remnants of the homophobes will be a small, unhappy, ridiculous and ridiculed vestige to be shoved aside in all sensible society.
So..I want to name the three bigots who caused the trouble here:
- Irish Times columnists John Waters and Breda O’Brien
- Catholic think-tank The Iona Institute
Remember kids, any online conversation where homophobia or bigotry comes up, feel free to say "Oh, like John Waters, Breda O'Brien & the Iona Institute?"
They can't bully the entire internet into submission.
I don't understand why there has to be a vote on this. Surely, the very fact that the Irish population will be voting implies that those who are affected by that vote are considered to be second-class citizens of this country. It shouldn't require a vote, people should just be allowed to get on with and gets married. Did the population have to vote to allow men marry women? No! So this vote further compounds the divide.
And on another note, aren't the groups and institutions behaving in a very unChristian way. Bullying, marginalising and intimidating anyone who doesn't confirm to their polar doctrine. Where's the ethics and compassion for fellow humans?
We come from the same one
Strip away the fear, underneath, it's all the same love
About time that we raised up!
Good luck to you, Irish.
