You forget the cardinal rule of American politics: IOKIYAR!
2
In today's GOP, plagarism is a badge of honor. It says "I can read!"
3
Maddow would totally kick his ass back to the stone age where it can join his politics.
4
It doesn't matter. His constituents can't read.
6
Oh shit, we've got a badass here.

Seriously, what kind of dickless fool responds to charges of plagiarism like that? Has Rand Paul done anything in life other than being a politician's son and this lowest-common-denominator pandering?
7
Refuting Rand Paul is like refuting religion.

Ever notice that nobody takes seriously an effort to refute religion?

It takes about 20 minutes of serious thought to refute religion, and then you realize that your interlocutors will never accept its refutation. So, you've just wasted 20 minutes of time. They will never be convinced of the error, because that's not the point.

Rand Paul is a walking conspiracy theory with cheap ideas meant to appeal to a 5 year-old level of political understanding. And, there are people who, lacking the ability or the will to move past that level of understanding, will hold their ground.
8
It's okay though, because raindrop pointed out that it was just wikipedia, and didn't some Democrat do it once a hundred years ago?
9
Paul is assuming that writers and polemicists inhabit the same universe or, at minimum, conform to the same norms.
10
Without plagiarism there wouldn't be a wingnut echo-chamber, so give him a break.
12
"is you or is you ain't mah constitchents?!"

hoo, maddow is going to have fun with this.
13
@8: No, that's not quite what I said. That's your spin of what I said.
14
@ 13, it's close enough as it's an accurate paraphrase.
15
@14: No, your "paraphrase" neglected the first clause of my sentence, leaving the rest of the words out-of-context given that omission. However, unfortunately such liberties still meet the bar of The Huntington Post, MSNBC, the New York Times, and of course The Stranger, so there's nothing really I can do. My words will be blemished by your spin forevermore.
16
"reporters are people who take plagiarism very seriously". Wha? The modern reporter is a boot-licking toady, looking for ways to report the news so its master won't get angry and leave it off the cocktail party guest list (,present company excepted).
17
@15 - I'm not sure if this was your intent, but your reply caused me to actually laugh out loud in its absurdity.
18
@15 You totally left Faux News out of your pissy little tirade.
20
@19 - good catch, great retort!
21
What @18 said. Besides, raindrop, how about taking some personal responsibility for writing something so poorly that you leave the impression I got?
22

This could be a good use for PRISM.

It's watching and tracking everything we say.

Could be used for intellectual property assertions or as evidence in stalking and harassment cases on the Internet.

Plus even if you were to erase something, prism would still have a lock on when you said those things.
23
@21: You're still have not negated the fact that I called you out on your spin and you've been trying desperately to get out of it.
24
LOL... you have to copy and paste your comment here to have accomplished that.
25
@24: No need for copying. People can see the comment in my profile and draw their own conclusion.
26
Sure, but that's not how you "prove" anything.
27
@26: There's no need for me to prove anything. I stated that you spun my comment. You stated that you paraphrased my comment. Each of which is subjective to whoever reads the comment.
28
Those who listen to Paul will listen to Paul; those who listen to Maddow will listen to Maddow; those worlds don't intersect so none of this matters.
29
Matt from Denver > raindrop
30
@28

It's a politically powerful cult leader calling for violence against a an articulate, outspoken woman. It matters.
31
@8: I can't find any reference in this thread, previous to your post, to what "raindrop pointed out." What did "raindrop" point out? There does not seem to be enough info I this thread to figure out wtf you and "raindrop" are talking about?
32
For all that Rand Paul is "not my problem", outside of being a US Senator and offering death threats to a commentator I like, this to me is a perfect example of the "other" Rand: Ayn. To the best of my understanding (because, frankly, I never wanted such odious concepts entering my thoughts), or lack thereof, to a "Randian" the roads are their's to be plundered because the roads were a "preexisting condition", and as such not the "Randian's" responsibility to maintain. Wikipedia is a public source of knowledge, so what is the BFD? The plundering of anything not jealously guarded is OK (otherwise someone would own it?).

For those of us that never bought into the playground bully "What's mine is mine, and what's yours is mine" thing, we get that each citizen's owning a (very small) share of the public trust means just that: sharing. I'm most likely screwing up Rand's stated POV, but IMHO not it's outcome: both Rands are odious bullys.

Peace
33
Kids, Rand Paul is not guilty of plagiarism. His ghost writer is.
34
I'm with @31. Where the hell is raindrops's initial comment?

You can't delete comments once they're posted, can you?
35
@34 I'll join in wondering about the initial comment, although I know this is the most meaningless thing I will do all day...
36
@31, 34, 35: it was from a few days ago—

(Slog has a search box in the upper-left corner of the main, non-mobile page. Sometimes it snags what you want; sometimes it doesn't.)

Please wait...
