Will you PLEASE PLEASE OH PRETTY PLEASE put about 2/3 of this below the fold? It takes up about 40% of Slog's main page right now, and that's just too much, no matter how worthy the topic.

Congratulations to all the genius award recipients.

What Matt from Denver said.

There was nothing else on Slog for the first couple hours of the day, so we filled it with photos for the early morning readers. Most of it's now behind the jump.

@ 3, I beg to differ - Eli's 6:00am post was up, and it was pushed waaaaaaay down the page by this post. Further, I think posts should always be curtailed below the fold if they go over a certain length, no matter how not-so-fresh the previous stories might be. There might be the occasional story that truly demands attention and deserves to be entirely viewed on the front page (e.g. some of Dan's posts about the anti-gay laws and pogroms in Russia), but those are rare.

That said, thank you for putting a jump in this story. (Or thank Bethany, if she's the one who did it.)

@4 -- I understand you have strong feelings about these things. Me too! We just happen to have different feelings about how this piece should have been presented between 6 and 9 am.

@5 -- More photos coming today from Kelly O! Oh yeah, and video of the musical performances by Katie Kate and Jherek Bischoff!!

Ugh, it wasn't an error. Fail!
