One good troll (Bloomberg) deserves another (Goldy).
3
Wow, Bloomberg isn't watching his mouth at ALL these days. Someone's got senioritis!
4
remember 2008, when people thought he would make a good (non-partisan) president? (laff)

Bloomberg makes a valid point - if de Blasio had any integrity, he would hide his black wife and mixed-race children from the public eye, or at least hire a good make up artist to make them look white.

As for "Bloomberg", well, it's pretty obvious to anyone watching what card he's playing by parading around NYC with a name like that. For Christ's sake, Michael, show some integrity and change your name to "Smith" or "Johnson", or at least remove the "berg".

Wow, calling someone whose child is part African-American a racist.

I've never heard of such absurdity.

Where could this ever happen.

I can't imagine it.

I can't think of a single place...a blog say...where someone who has an offspring...who is in fact...part African-American...would somehow end up being labelled a racist.

Do you know of such a BSlog?

Can you tell me of such a place, a sort of BSlog where that would happen?

And certainly if it actually happened, in the real actual world of Truth, I wouldn't then put a post on that same BSlog condemning someone for doing EXACTLY THE SAME STUPID THING THAT HAPPENS EACH AND EVERY DAY ON MY OWN BSLOG!!

(Geesus Crist Almeety!)

Good Lord, go back to bed and wake up again, start the week over, Goldy. Lazy writing, typo, and contradicting your headline in the lst paragraph and then showing the whole notion to be your imagined conclusion...? Paycheck revoked.

One really wonders why Bailo spews forth his bubbleheaded mush each and every day if he hates Slog so much.

Here's a tip, Bailo: you could stop posting your drivel, and stay on your zero-traffic personal discussion forum.

Because you aren't gaining any traction here with any of your idiotic, misogynistic, racist spew.

To give Bloomberg the benefit of the doubt, I think his intent was not to mean "racist" as much as to say that DeBlasio has introduced a racial element into the campaign...but I'm not feeling that charitable towards the guy who decided that he wanted a third term despite what the law said, so he just changed the law. Although Bloomjerk misspoke, what he actually said is closer to his real intent than if he said what he intended to say, so his mistake is actually more truthful than if he had applied the correct spin.

For context, it should be noted that the appointed heir to Bloomberg is losing badly in the polls to de Blasio's unabashedly progressive candidacy.

The DeBlasio family makes Bloomberg uncomfortable because they represent the future. Old men with vast fortunes dread the future.

So, we have a white Jewish mayor commenting on a successor in an election featuring a white guy with a mixed-race family, a black guy in his third marriage, a lesbian city councilwoman (polling at 18%), and then the 6% and under candidates - Weiner who will sex-t any young woman nomatter what race, an Taiwanese guy, and an Italian guy.

Meanwhile, our Seattle primary finished with 1) the gay white guy, 2) the white guy, 3) the white guy, 4) the darker mixed-race guy, and then the under 4% old white guy, old white guy, and then 3 women candidates.

The diversity of challengers in New York is absolutely shocking to us Seattle-ites.

The de Blasio family are trailblazers, and their kids seem to have their heads on straight:

I'm actually a Bloomberg supporter and have a great deal of respect for the man and his business practices and acumen. Speaking isn't one of his fortes. Continuing Giuliani's street policing activities is a pretty big demerit, too, although my impression is that the NYPD is on a much shorter leash than they were under Rudy. I love the way Mike tore down the Royal Court that grew up around City Hall, and cut all the privileges (like free cars, no-show jobs, and street-parking passes) that Giuliani gave out like candy corn to his minions' minions. There will always be some corruption in a politically-run mega-enterprise like the City of New York, but it was so, so, so much worse under everyone else, and very especially Giuliani.

Racial pandering in a political campaign? OMG, I'm so, so shocked! Who knew that sort of thing went on? (Quick, cue the tape of Bloomberg speaking Spanish in the absolutely worst gringo accent ever, with his ASL translator next to him and whichever minority and women employees they could line up behind him.) Using the word "racist" was just wrong, but it's pretty clear to me he never actually meant racist in any discriminatory/bigoted sense.

When I first looked up the mayoral candidates a couple months ago, I was ready to scratch off DeBlasio. What kind of yuppie Park Slope pretentious bullshit, I thought, is naming your kids Dante and Chiara? Then I saw Dante on TV and was ashamed of myself for my presumptions. Not your boring, entitled, pretentious white political machine connected yuppie after all. His biracial connection to this city, his previous experience on the City Council, and his progressive positions all came together for me. And now, his kids' names even seem pretty cool choices to me for Italian-American biracial kids. I hope he wins. I'm voting for him.

@14: for this single election cycle, maybe. Seattle and NYC simultaneously elected their first black mayors, even though blacks make up four times more of the population than they do in Seattle. I think that historically you'll see about the same level of diversity: not that much, but it's getting better. Especially if you also look at State Governors and other elected officials.

Bloomberg whining about the brave-new-world imaging of his opponent ("No fair with your Rainbow Coalition family! It's a photo-op every time you go to Red Lobster!") and then implying de Blasio is a crass tactician just for having a mixed-race family makes him an asshole, but not an unprecedented one. The Obamas' skin color has been bandied about as somehow both an unfair advantage ("he's impervious to liberal criticism because he's black!") and a free pass to fuck with his family (has any other First Lady had members of Congress comment on the size of her ass?)- this taps into Bloomberg's bullshit assertions about de Blasio's campaign strategy. I understand the point Goldy is trying to make. I don't know if this was the most elegant connection he could have made, but I understand the point.
19
"mixed-racist family".

Okay, that was funny. Bloomberg is just hurt that Quinn has fallen behind in the polls.
20
Bailo, I didn't know you had an African-American child.

Where did you buy it?
21
@20 - that's not cool.
22
@20: What the fuck is your problem?

Please wait...
