Republicans aren't the only ones who don't give a shit about what Mitt Romney has to say.
2
Some of these Congressional Republicans live in a warped little bubble that extends beyond anything conservative, into the realm of complete narcissism and sociopathy.

They think they're saving the country from doom, that history will shine brightly upon them, and that all the voices of reason calling them back from the brink are signs that they are doing something right. It's utter madness.

Who?

@3 He's a potential big money contributor.

I put him down for some face time and a photo op.
5
i really want to see what happens when soldiers aren't paid.
6
Republicans hated Romney before he went mainstream.
7
Romney, dude, the election is over, you can take credit for Romney/Obamacare now. Eventually your going to anyway, so why not just get it over with?
8
Appreciate your integrity Paul for having posted this.

What will happen if they shut the government down? The GOP will blame it on Obama, their base will drink it in willingly, swing voters will flee for the imperfect but genuinely endeavoring Democratic Party, and we libs will roll our eyes despairingly and tell Harry Reid to reform the goddamn filibuster already.
10
How sorry is the state of the GOP when Mitt Romney is making more sense than the main strategists?

Rich people need to stop whomping on the little bit of sinecure that poor people have and start spending their money and creating those "Free Market jobs".

Remember the Roman patricians. Those guys knew how to shut up the proles. Parties, free bread....circuses! How about it super-elite? We want a circus...and lions eating people in the arena. That's Ultimate!

@11 Isn't that what "reality television" is?
13
@12: Bing!

My bet is this will be a turning point for the future of the Republican Party.

If the establishment wants to turn the corner on reigning in the crazy beast they've created and signed a blood pact with, shutting down the government will be their Rubicon.

Either they get their crazies under control or the party will split. Either way they're doomed by demographics.

The key is what will the Democrats do with their power in the next generation. Will they take the money from the gilded elite or will real liberal leaders emerge who can wrest the power back and return some of it to the 99%?

For me, I'm trying to learn more about early 20th century history to figure out how we did it before.

lolorhone said what I was thinkin' when I read Mitt's blurb. It goes beyond any sensibilities, common or otherwise, to attempt to paint so many lies with the hues of truth. It's way past the time that these ALLEGED leaders pull their collective craniums from their anuses, and BE the leaders they profess themselves to be, rather than a mob of schoolyard bullies who will do and say anything that they believe will further their outrageously egocentric and pompous agendas. THAT is NOT democracy. NOT EVEN CLOSE.

We've never had a shutdown where soldiers didn't get paid. They've always found a way to prioritize things like defense. For that reason I don't think the Republicans are scared of the consequences -- from their perspective, the "good" parts of the government will carry on regardless.

Please wait...
