Will Germany Become First Nation with a Hydrogen Economy?

Germany will become the first country completely accessible to fuel cell vehicles in 2015, when carmaker Daimler and the Linde technology group will build 20 new hydrogen filling stations. The result will quadruple the number of public stations available and make it possible for a fuel cell vehicle to reach any location in the country.

@4 Considering most hydrogen is extracted from natural gas, I'm not too impressed with the "hydrogen economy". Even the hydrogen that comes from water electrolysis is still basically a coal derivative due to how most of the electricity needed is produced.

Ummm... That second link you posted is depressing. "We built a state-of-the-art solar plant that can produce hydrogen at peak times to even out the difference between power production and demand. But it needs something else... I know! Let's turn the whole thing into a greenhouse gas emitter by covering the H2 into CH4! There!"

There are two big problems that I see with our energy future- the first is that eventually we'll run out of easy-to-extract and highly energetic fossil fuels, and the second is that we're cooking ourselves with CO2 from the fuels we're using. This project could have overcome both, but instead they put in extra effort to avoid fixing the second problem.
