People say the Internet has shortened attention spans.

This QT column might be evidence of that.

Or maybe one-sentence paragraphs are just perpetually hip.

It's hard to say.

Wow. Thanks for introducing me to this. I'll put it in the same bookmark folder as the borowitz report.

It's "three-dot journalism," perfected and named by Herb Caen of the San Francisco Chronicle, somewhat before the internet.

Thanks, Dan, for what may eventually be a suitable replacement (it'll take some time to grasp all the inside jokes and local references). I am bereft since Caen's death in 1997.

Guns in your kids room! Yes. Genius. Genius.

Go NRA! Beautiful image makeover you've done. What's not to like? Don't spend all that goodwill in one place.

The NRA is claiming guns would have prevented the Boston bombing. They will try anything to get the attention off Newtown, many states passing new gun laws (other than the bogus non-effort in WA) and the fact that 90% of the population is for tougher gun laws. Nearly all the NRA's funding is from gun manufacturers, and the measure of success is increasing sales and profits.

I listened to that gun guy some more. His point is that you're a fool to think your kids won't find your guns in your own bedroom. So you might as well store them in the kids room. Because the only way to keep your gun out of your kids hands is to not have a gun at all. *laughter*

Go NRA! Never change.

Thank you for the link to Zay Smith - my dotfree misery is ended!

Growing up I had to share a room with my brother. I kept thinking, I would kill to get my own room. Voila! NRA to the rescue....

The gun market is totally saturated right now, and guns are "durable goods," which means you may buy one and go for 20 years without buying another one, so gun companies are really desperate to increase sales any way they can. There's a record LOW percentage of American households with guns today, so the manufacturers are spending a lot more time selling to people who already own guns. This NRA campaign sounds like it's trying to get gunowners to buy one for every room of the house. It sounds really silly to most people who don't own guns, but I bet it works better on people who have a few guns already.

You know how the whole anti-gay marriage argument in the Supreme Court was seen- even by conservatives- as weak and lacking basic logic? It's starting to look quite a bit like that for anti-any kind of gun regulation crowd, with one crucial exception. The NRA's lobbying force interacting with chickenshit politicians to block legislation that has 90% approval amongst Americans. Considering the new child-centric approach the NRA's going, we should start fighting by cutting them and other evil lobbyist groups off at the knees. Alas, this country's government is almost exclusively made up of chickenshit politicians. This shit is just too depressing.

What, no "teach your child to use a gun in a safe and responsible way; here are some links to NRA-sponsored lessons in your area"? Remember when the NRA was all about responsible gun ownership?

@Lance Thrustwell: Zay's QT column ran from 1995 - 2008 in the Chicago Sun-Times, so in many ways it's the precursor to today's blogs. After his departure from the Sun-Times, he continued the column in various online forms. So if this is hip, Zay was doing it before it was cool; you could even say that Zay is a journalistic hipster.

Please wait...
