@3 Whether innocent or guilty, no way will that suspect not be killed or chemically lobotomized. As demonstrated bu the fate of Oswald, Osama,, Al-Awlaki and Dorner, if the suspect is enough of a "bad guy" the piblic will accept an execution without trial, no matter if they were guilty, an accomplice, a patsy, or completely innocent. Executions are especially convenient if the suspect has knowledge that certain parties mght not want to get out.
Well. Clearly the police need to encourage people in the neighboring community to mill about on the scene with iPhone cameras.
While dodging bullets, Bostonians should freely post inane memes and misinformation to social media so as to confuse and distract the fugitive and give him more targets.
Thus, while the terror suspect is so befuddled, allowing the cops to catch him without crushing our precious Civul Liberteeeeez and destroying Amurica.
Just think a decade ago we would have had to wait until later tonight to find out what actually happened rather than reading third hand accounts in real time.
oh i know, i thought you'd meant to read them instead of just using them to supplement this incredible slack-jawed speculation. they're a good resource!
It strikes me..much as we want to paint these guys as foreign, for a place like Massachusetts, they are just part of the landscape...pretty much a couple of middle class kids, with lots of material wealth, sports prowess, education and in a well to do neighborhood. The kind of kids who play soccer, apply to selective schools, have their parents buy them cars. Ok, their real parents were in Russia (why is that, anyway?) but they don't seem that far off the median demographic. You might game with them, you might toke with them, you might see them at a food fair...because you are them.
@22 None of the people on the news today had interacted with these guys recently. Most of them were friends who knew them in high school or family that wasn't much in touch.
Just heard "suspect in custody" on BPD radio. Sounds like they called for medics, but the medics had such a hard time getting through the throng of police vehicles they're making their approach on foot...
Oh good! He’s alive. Read him his Miranda Rights and appoint a team of lawyers to defend him stat before he says anything that might conflict with Barack Obama’s declaration that he was "confident" of achieving "our objective of defeating the core of al-Qaeda".
Or… maybe it will fit the narrative better if he bleeds to death on the way to the hospital…
@28 -- The best interrogators in the world are about to start asking him questions. They won't need waterboards, they won't need torture, they won't need anything but time.
And I hope everything that happens from here on out maintains the dignity of our justice system.
@34
Yet if Obama determines anyone is an enemy combatant, citizens included, he can send a drone to kill him and his friends and family under secret order without legal process on a whim.
@38 -- Pretty much, yeah. And then he'll pay a team of lawyers to sue him just so the Supreme Court could stop him should they rule he's not allowed to.
And now the same amount of govt resources will be used to determine the cause of the explosions at the fertilizer plant in TX and determine that the perps cost-cutting worship of money caused the terror, just like this as reported from ginandtacos.com
"Turns out that the Union Oil Refinery in Romeoville, IL (about 20 miles away) had been leaking gas into one of its tanks for days. A small fire broke out. As they began trying to extinguish it, the whole structure detonated in an explosion heard as far away as Indiana. A thirty-four ton tank was thrown over 500 feet through the air. Everything in the immediate vicinity was flattened. Seventeen people, including ten members of the fire department, died in the explosion. OSHA fined Union Oil, although a promise to prosecute company officials for safety violations (of course) never materialized." July 23, 1984
Speaking for myself I'll find a lot more satisfaction in having this guy answer in the light of day for what he's done, versus just letting him bleed out in his little corner.
@53 You mean G.W. Bush, the man who thinks chess pieces are just some kind of fancy-pants checkers?
He actually said on at least one occasion that it wasn't worth our trouble to pursue one terrorist. He wanted to be able to deal with the world in larger chunks, with good countries and bad countries. And, of course, we should fight the bad countries. Especially if they have resources. Especially if our political campaigns are beholden to resource-extraction companies.
Didn't turn on the sirens because the place was crawling with cops. Sirens are fucking load and it's rude to use them when people are right in front of the unit.
The path from where they were to where they were going was probably the safest route of traffic in the world when they left.
You bet your ass every person above the medics in the their chain of command called the driver while he waited on standby.
If the shooter were going to bleed out from gunshot wounds, he would have bled out hours ago.
Amazing that he didn't get shot anywhere serious. I won't be shocked if the news reports he was wearing a vest.
I'm glad suspect 2 is still alive if for no other reason than enough people have died during this tragedy.
Thanks very, very much to all the people that helped save the wounded from the bombings.
Thanks very, very much to the police and public that helped resolve how we respond to this terrorist attack. All things considered, it is shocking how quickly the terrorists were identified and dealt with.
@40 Wrong. Awlaki and especially son were not engaged in hostilities. There was no imminent threat. Along with dozens other "combatants" who were at funerals and weddings. But don't let facts get in the way of a good case of cognitive dissonance.
Oh, they'll execute him soon enough, @56. Yes, I know Massachusetts doesn't have the death penalty, but the feds do. He'll be following in Tim McVeigh's footsteps before it's all over.
@58, if he is tried as the citizen he is, can he really be executed, given that he did his crimes in MA? Yes, they were federal crimes, but so is capital murder, and you don't get death for that if the crime is committed in a no-death penalty state.
Yes, Lynx. At least two of the federal crimes he's likely to be charged with have the death penalty as an option. These are separate from the murder charges.
As of 4:52, lots of shots being fired in small clusters. Oye.

The dad said he didn't come to the states because he was ill.
Or… maybe it will fit the narrative better if he bleeds to death on the way to the hospital…
Right! Let's try him as a minor. Send him to Juvie hall for a few months.
And I hope everything that happens from here on out maintains the dignity of our justice system.
Honorable job, guys. Well done.
BIG KUDOS to all the law enforcement personnel who made this happen - dammit, I wish I could buy EVERYONE OF YOU GUYS a BEER!!!!!!!!1
:-D

(Based on the fact that the ambulance left the scene slowly, with no emergency lights or siren.)
I'll even tell you how I know you're wrong.
It's a bet I wouldn't mind losing. You're on.
It's not all that uncommon for an ambulance to not use lights/siren. They've come a long way. They're almost a self-contained ER themselves now.
Suspect has not been and will NOT be Mirandized (citing national security issues and a grave impending threat to the country). Yes, they can do that.

TOKE?
Dude, you are seriously dating yourself here.
(glad they caught the MFPoS alive, btw)

That worked out so well, too.
The path from where they were to where they were going was probably the safest route of traffic in the world when they left.

This kid wanted to live.

Again, very well done.
