I'm pro-investment in science (my livelihood depends on it) but I am less enthusiastically pro-presidents/congress deciding what our strategic research priorities are. There is only so much money for science (and less, these days) and this top-down stuff comes--one way or another--at the expense of investigator-initiated, "bottom-up" science. Which has served the U.S. really, really well for decades.

If the cure is medication, then whats a cure going to do when people go off their meds? Seriously, how many shootings do we need to read about in which the shooter went off their meds or refused to take them, only to go crazy in a coffee shop, theater, parking lot of a safeway?

Im all for this research, but if were going to cure people through medication, its going to have a fatal flaw.

I am new to this so called mind mapping, it was brought to my attention by a friend i had not seen for 18 odd years. I was told by third party my old mate was suffering delusions of a schizophrenic nature and be prepared when you visit him. I was listening to my friend who was describing something very bazaar which i found very hard to comprehend. I will try to explain as clearly and briefly as i can what he said so please bare with me! he believes for the last four years his mind or body had been accessed by a government organization who could tap into his body thru satalites that use either laser technology or micro waves and listen into his conversations and even ask him questions when ever they desired, you must understand in the past my friend was well known and targeted by police task forces due to some high range illegal dealings. He is positive they are illegally using a new mind tapping surveilance on him 24 hours a day 7 days a week. As you can imagine i thought yep his gone alright and politely said my good byes and left it at that but a week later i was reading the Melbourne herald sun news paper and was amazed to read on the front page that Australian crime task force urgently desire new American mind mapping tech to assist them in there investigations. The officer went on to say with this new tool they could determine weather someone is guilty or innocent with in five minutes, then the cop went on to describe exactly what my friend explained to me so now i don't know what to think, if anyone with knowledge on this matter could enlighten me weather this is possible and could my mate be being used as a guinea pig while they experiment with this new equipment or has he lost the plot?
