There are plenty of interesting arguments, often from gay writers, about how the march to gay marriage might be influencing heterosexual norms — from Alex Ross’s recent musings in The New Yorker on the sudden “queer vibe” in straight pop culture to Dan Savage’s famous argument that straights might do well to imitate the “monogamish” norms of some gay male couples. It’s only the claim that this influence might not always be positive that is dismissed as bigotry and unreason.

A Texas DA who had armed himself after one of his ADAs was murdered was found dead with his wife at home. It sounds like he took the necessary precautions, and there are no signs reported that he was careless with his gun. I guess he made himself feel safer, but they still got him.

4, Indeed! Let's all celebrate the gods of western culture who were fathered by a god, born of a virgin, performed miracles, were killed and then came back to life after three days:
Attis, Adonis, Tammuz, Dammuzi, Dionysos, Marduk, Amun.... I'm probably forgetting a few Celtic ones in there.

(Of course, we don't talk about those, because their followers weren't fanatics like the Christians: who were far more willing to kill & destroy in the name of their god than anyone in the world had ever seen previously. Until Islam, that is, a few centuries later.)

The traditional Catholics were pissed at the fact that the Pope washed FEMALE feet. Since Jesus had only male disciples and the Pope is supposed to be Jesus here. It didn't matter what religion the feet were.

Hard to express how crazy all that is.

Today I remember Hypatia, who was a woman of great learning and virtue, was murdered in 415 A.D. by Christians who flayed off her skin and murdered her. One of the many great martyrs to freedom and knowledge that Christians have murdered.
