ok i'll be the impatient low-prol and just ask: using terms of material objects, what is this thing? ..projection screen? ..persistence of vision? ..highly reflective surface? dumb it down for us hnh?

Wake me when they start making entire buildings out of this.

I think the video on Mirror was choreographed for the performance. Not sure it will look like that going forward.

Seeing Terry Riley was sublime.

@yelahneb: pretty interesting: http://www.alliedworks.com/projects/dutc…

'Video synced to surroundings' claim sounded very cool, so pretty disappointed by what I saw at the performance. Footage looked extremely generic to the region. I hope & pray we'll be able to see some visual patterns emerge in the display that give a sense of parrying or at least acknowledging its setting. And for god's sake, why not also have real-time feeds coming in from remote cameras? (Or even from NW webcams. The WaMu falcons, digitally remixed, would've been cool to see, no?)

Somebody make a building-sized McLeoud House mirror. That thing on SAM sucks.

The only potential art in this piece is the algorithm created by an uncredited coder that chooses from the uninspired NW "karaoke footage" displayed on an equally uninspired LED video screen. Unfortunately, the AI, no matter how good it may be, gets lost in a piece like this because its not accentuated by the medium itself. The display design is the less inspired than whar you can see on any EDM festival stage lately and barely better than your average arena jumbotron.

This is such a lost opportunity to do something more forward thinking in terms of the content AND the delivery. It's unfortunate that Aitkens global cache prevented something really amazing like these pieces:

Whitevoid's OLED flowing panels: https://vimeo.com/45859302

or Plebian Designs glass LCD panel piece: https://vimeo.com/41009719

or Robert Henke's recent piece with lasers:
https://vimeo.com/60578749

or real avant guarde things happening with mechanical "projections" like this: https://vimeo.com/46857169

or any of the other hundreds of pieces of REAL cutting edge multimedia work where the audience KNOWS that they are seeing something they have never seen before.

You know what would be cool? That big video of the Coca Cola ad that was on the blimp in Blade Runner. I want to see that on there. I have got another view of the piece in motion, shot from a vantage point where you can see the north side of the building too: http://rebeccabush.com/1/post/2013/03/mi…

Well take a look at my facebook comment and photos. Terry Riley's piece definately made the piece work. The video was flatfooted and obvious, but with the music it was enhanced. Without the music, not much but ornamental wall paper. Aitkin's is a formalist, about process. Riley's work is conceptual, emphasis on thought, but the poetry creeps in. No poetry in Aitkin!
