Oh, shit.
2
if? he'll sign, he's GOP.

this will be the model for every republican controlled state in the country.

3
It's too bad RepubliKKKans couldn't give a damn what happens to those babies after they're born.
4
@3,
They care in a certain sense... They want them to either:

1. Join the military so the warmonger republicans can wage more wars, or

2. Go to prison, which are mostly located in republican districts, where they count as population but don't get to vote... i.e., get more republicans elected.

Republicans view poor people as fodder. Republican strategies are not merely selfish, they are evil.

Meh. The Supreme Court recently threw out a law banning abortions after 20 weeks. This is clearly unconstitutional. Don't get your panties twisted.
6
Experimental theology has conclusively proven that the possession of a heartbeat equals human life.
8
What a horrible waste of tax payer funds. This will immediately be challenged, a court will eventually throw it out and the Christian right will bitch and moan and plot to do it all again. All so a few old, white guys can pat themselves on the back and say they're the ones who have been wronged.

Wash, rinse, repeat.
9
This is horrible, but I am curious: will losing the right actually start to form a backlash against the reactionary backlash we've had for forties years now from the right wing?

Why hasn't widespread availability of mifepristone not changed this dynamic?
10
With this federal Supreme Court, I'm worried.
11
This is what the people who have rented Rob McKenna would like to do.
12
@9 mifepristone hasn't been a game changer because of restrictions to access. You still hafta get it from a clinic (and they'll need to do an ultrasound to confirm that the pregnancy is in the uterus, date the preganancy, and conduct Rh status testing). You can't just have it called into Walgreens, take it home, and abort. Jennie McCormack tried that in Idaho, was waaaaay too far along for a medical abortion and was arrested for violating a weirdo law in Idaho that states a woman cannot administer her own abortion.

Although it is horrible, it's not as bad as you make it sound. Learn your biology, otherwise you sound like an idiot who shouldn't be paid attention to. You get pregnant at ovulation, which is in the middle of the cycle. So the ban is 4 weeks after a missed period.
14
The REALLY bad part is the other bill they passed along with it. Under that bill (HB 1305), it would be illegal to abort a pregnancy because of a genetic disorder of the embryo/fetus. This is basically aimed at Down Syndrome, but it's got a pretty wide scope.
People with Down Syndrome get off relatively easy with mild to moderate mental retardation, some fairly benign skeletomuscular deformations, and usually some congenital problems of the heart or gastrointestinal tract. Other trisomies aren't so gentle, let alone the vast number of problems you can find with 46XY.
This bill, if passed, will cause infants to be brought into the world to face short, painful lives.
15
Infertile, wealthy Americans are having a dickens of a time finding enough healthy, white babies for purchase. I'm sure this will help.
16
Another state the Federal Government will have to sue to overturn the law. I swear, to punish these morons the government should bill the state to foot all legal expenses as they remind them of the Federal Law.
17
@13: You get pregnant when egg meet sperm. The egg doesn't have to be outside of the fallopian tube for that to occur. When such a pregnancy happens, it's known as "ectopic" and the zygote sure as hell isn't surviving that.
18
@3: I pointed this out to my pro-life cousin, and she said that isn't fair. She and her husband plan on opening up their home to special needs kids. After he's retired, of course. In the meantime, she'll get pregnant as many times as she can. But they'll get around to adopting all those unwanted children they insist need to be born, in their own time you see.
19
If they're dating the pregnancy the usual medical way, by last menstrual period, a woman will have 2 weeks from her missed period (if she's absolutely regular) to get an abortion.

Boy, am I glad my branch of the family left North Dakota!

Well, the governor has four adult daughters and no sons, so here's hoping he has a more enlightened view of women's health. I hope one will call and convince him not to make this anti-woman shit his legacy.
21
13, see 19. and 17 - sperm meets egg usually within 24-36 hrs of ovulation (often sooner than that). so, yeah, fertilization is quite closely tied to ovulation.
22
this will essentially ban abortion in n.d., as most (all?) clinics won't perform an abortion until the sac is visible via ultrasound to ensure complete removal, which is at approximately six weeks. and while, yes, it is possible to take the "abortion pill," legislation in places like wisconsin and perhaps elsewhere have, at least temporarily, ended its use.
23
@12 - Thanks for the pointer to the story.

It seems to me that some brave souls will have to start performing "back alley" prescription services. Why Obama's FDA still won't loosen this up just infuriates me. Didn't Plan B finally get cleared to get free of the "conscientious objectors" of the medical world?
24
As long as Roe v. Wade stands, this law is meaningless. It's still incredibly stupid - the "it has a heartbeat!" thing the anti-choicers are always screeching about only reveals their ignorance of basic biology - but as long as we still have our 5 pro-choice justices, all abortions are legal until the point of viability.

Yay, finally someone with some common sense. Hold the women and men who are in casual relationships accountable for being more careful and preventing unwanted pregnancies as opposed to using abortions for birth control. In today's society, these many abortions are not necessary if people would make better decisions, be more careful and take their relationships more serious. If people would use the God given intelligence concerning relationships and preventing unwanted pregnancies, abortion would be a non-issue. The only people I know that got pregnant using birth control, did not use it correctly. Like I said, think and use your brain ....... All of these women getting abortions ..... The math does not add up. All of these women getting abortions can't possibly be a statistic for "failed" birth control. Smarter decisions would help prevent all of these abirtions !

People should use their God given intelligence to think and make better decisions. You can't tell me that all of these abortions are necessary and that all of these women are a statistic for "failed" birth control. The math does not add up. The only people I know who got pregnant using birth control used it incorrectly. Like I said, people should be held accountable for their actions ! In today''s society, with today's technology, abortions should not be used as a means of birth control ! Less than 1% of all abortions are because of rapes and illness. The rest are all means of birth control ! Get rid of the frivolous abortions, the abortions because of stupidity, and we would not be having this discussion !

Please wait...

and remember to be decent to everyone
all of the time.
