I've read several of the books on the list (Gone Girl isn't prize worthy in my book) but one that should be on the list is "Carry the One" by Carol Anshaw.

An excellent story with excellent writing and a real bead on a big wedge of American culture.

Loved Where'd You Go, Bernadette. Surprised that Swimming Home by Deborah Levy didn't make it. That novel really stuck with me.
