When at the Republican Caucus last year, I did an extremely scientific "how many non-white people are in this room" count. I think I got to six, but there was one fellow whom I think I may have counted twice.
This douche. Following in the footsteps of Herman Cain by complaining how most black people, especially Dems, don't understand hard work and how she was going to tear the Congressional Black Caucus a new one if she was elected.
@ 3, she's important because she's an African American Republican. You know how only old white people voted for Romney? Expect to see minority Republicans get a LOT more exposure over the next four years.
Hi Mia Love, it's nice to see you again after losing in Utah...a blood red state.
Of course, she was running against Jim Matheson whom Utahns enjoy. Here's an article as to why she lost the 4th District Congressional Race in which she is likened unto Sarah Palin.
Oh lucky you - the lying mayor of Saratoga Springs, a once delightful backwater burb in Happy Valley, home of BYU and lots of meth users, She's so full of shit it isn't even funny. Let's see what her immigration story is this time - it's usually got convenient inconsistencies, depending on her audience.
@ 14, don't forget that they acquiesced and let them all be disenfranchised under Jim Crow.
@ 11, ironic that Republicans now champion policies that keep African Americans in poverty instead (slavery without the pesky overhead of caring and feeding!), and actively tried to disenfranchise minorities in recent elections.
What is your theory for the overwhelming loyalty of African Americans to the Democrats these days? Do you think the fact that the racists and white supremacists all reside in the GOP has anything to do with it?
@16
Actually Jim Crow laws were overturned by the Civil Rights Act of 1964 which was supported by both parties, though supported by a greater margin of Republicans than Democrats.
The point I am making is that today racism is entrenched in the white urban left. African Americans are treated as if they are unable to help themselves and make their own political decision without the help of leftist activist. As for the return of slavery, I feel that it exist today in the policy of trading government benefits for a herd of voters loyal to the party line. The government supporting people creates a need for the government to exist. People are taught that they are victims who society owes a living rather than empowering individuals with the skills that they need to be successful.
Like I said before, Goldsteins article and the comments in this thread are pretty much proof of the racism that exist on the left. 15 is a pretty striking example. The fact of the matter is that you guys are saying that people of color must share your political views and tow the party line otherwise they are somehow traitors to their race.
@ 18, you brought up the Republicans' history as though it's relevant today. It is not. The hardcore racists used to have a home in the Democratic Party, true, but they all register and vote Republican today. That has been the case for decades.
The rest of your comment is hard right pablum, and much more racist in fact. You are saying that African Americans are in fact helpless, and assert that they vote Democratic not out of their interests but because they weakly rely on handouts. I would dare you to go down Rainier and find some African Americans and share your theory with them, but there's no way in hell you would.
@20
I am not saying that they are helpless but they have been lulled in to a learned helplessness by the left. The "hardcore racist" are those who undermine the success of Black Americans by creating a welfare culture, and likewise those like GOLDY who as 19 said consider any person of color at a Republican rally to be "the help". Not treating people as equals and expecting them to conform to a set of social norms is true institutionalized racism.
BTW I live about 3 blocks from Rainier, chances are I have more experience with "diversity" than most of The Strangers readership.
@ 21, that's some nice parroting of the right wing media's talking points, but they're all bullshit. Your neighbors would be highly insulted by your assertion that they could be "lulled in to a learned helplessness" like simpletons.
@21 Republicans became the party of the rich, white man many years ago. They are no longer, nor will they likely ever again, be the party of civil leaders.
Learn your own party's history before claiming that the Republicans never became racist assholes. They did, and they are.
It was a very full gymnasium, by the way.
Of course, she was running against Jim Matheson whom Utahns enjoy. Here's an article as to why she lost the 4th District Congressional Race in which she is likened unto Sarah Palin.
So, the Republicans there should love her.
Looks like Goldy is showing his true racist colors again.
I think you are forgetting which party freed the slaves and which party gave African Americans the right to vote.
Hint: It wasn't the democrats.
At least this thread shows that the Dems are staying true to their history of racism.

Seattle: where white people go to live in a big city without black people while simultaneously claiming they are not racist!
