Here's the author Fox News is talking about in that clip, calling them out on air for the way they presented his argument. They pulled his segment from their online posting of the clip:

Those posters are amazing. I'm glad I work at a desk. The possibility of those kinds of accidents really scares me. I used to get pretty nervous when I had to work on the printing press or use the hydraulic paper cutter.

@1 great clip, but now I want to hear about this "goat running".
4
I'd pay to see a thriving polar bear hunt down and eat that fascist milf

Regardless of what the author did or didn't say, it's also remarkable -- or standard, I suppose -- for Fox to completrely disregard scientific research (University of Toronto professors? Buncha libruls) and rely on one non-expert's account that supposedly debunks it.

There's no possible way that all the development in my area is affecting local wildlife populations and forcing them to relocate and compete for scarce resources - there's a squirrel that lives in my tree! I can see a squirrel! How can anyone say they are dying off?

Total non sequitur.

"There are more polar bears than ever! They're walking down main street!"

Uh, maybe because they can no longer survive in their normal habitat?

Polar Bears are totally overrated and "youz buncha libruls" ain't listening to the facts on the ground apparently.

More Polar Bears now than in the past 40 years despite what ALGore trys to depict in that pathetic cartoon shown.

BTW: Shannon Bream, meee-yow! That s the only reason you need to watch Foxy News.

So we have to deal with GeneStoner regurgitating the drivel he heard on Fox AND Stranger staff posting same drivel. Great, just what I want to read on SLOG.

In the meantime:

The 'shale revolution' — the extraction of gas and oil from previously inaccessible reservoirs — has been declared an energy game changer. It is offsetting declines in conventional oil and gas production, with shale gas being heralded as a transition fuel to a low-carbon future, and shale oil as being capable of reinstating the United States as the largest oil producer in the world, eliminating the need for foreign imports.

These heady claims have been largely accepted by government forecasters, including the International Energy Agency1 and the US Energy Information Administration (EIA). The oil firm BP predicts that production of shale gas will treble and shale oil — also known as 'tight oil' — will grow sixfold from 2011 levels by 2030 (ref. 2).

The claims do not stand up to scrutiny. In a report published this week by the Post Carbon Institute3 in Santa Rosa, California, I analyse 30 shale-gas and 21 tight-oil fields (or 'plays') in the United States, and reveal that the shale revolution will be hard to sustain. The study is based on data for 65,000 shale wells from a production database that is widely used in industry and government. It shows that well and field productivities exhibit steep declines. Production costs in many shale-gas plays exceed current gas prices, and maintaining production requires ever-increasing drilling and the capital input to support it.

Although the extraction of shale gas and tight oil will continue for a long time at some level, production is likely to be below the exuberant forecasts from industry and government. I see supplies of shale gas declining substantially in the next decade unless prices rise considerably. A more realistic debate around shale gas and tight oil is urgently needed — one that accounts for the fundamentals of production in terms of sustainability, cost and environmental impact.

Oh, the bears are thriving? Super!

Then we should go right on burning as much fuel as we want, because there's obviously nothing bad about filling the atmosphere with smoke!

Besides, we don't need to cut back on fossil fuel emissions because China's not going to, and therefore there wouldn't be any point in reduction because 10 minus 5 apparently still equals 10.

*facepalm*

The book sounds pretty good:

Understand that sea ice is the be-all end-all of polar bear habitat and that the Arctic may be ice-free in the summer in a matter of decades (though models have all underestimated how quickly ice would be lost). Just because their numbers are up since before hunting was banned 30 years ago doesn't mean they're not knocking on the door of a fucking catastophe.

Shannon Bream is no Megyn Kelly. Fascist MILF, indeed. Kudos to @4 for a term I will be stealing.
