Neither was green leafy things.

Well?
2
Ballot initiative.
3
@ 2 Good idea just make sure we don't do it in a heavy GOP year like was done with 1098.
4
I have to say, as a Democrat and a Liberal, I'm very glad that my views are being represented in Olympia.
5
You need to throw people caught with illegal handguns in jail for 50 years. That WILL reduce gun violence. Of course, then you'll all whine about "social justice"
6
Meh. The assault weapons ban is a red herring. The viable options on the table for reducing gun violence are mandatory background checks and tighter restrictions on high capacity magazines.
7
Top perk of a ballot initiative: getting to listen to conservatives whine about how it's wrong to put someones rights up to a popular vote. Why, if you get to vote on my second-amendment rights today, I may get to vote on your marriage rights tomorrow—oh, right.
8
Someone should just pay Governor Timmeh to run the initiative. He'll do it for enough $$.
9
You could actually imprison people that commit crimes. Oh, wait. Mudede can't walk that far to visit his friends/neighbors.
10
@9- We've already tried that. Our prisons are overflowing, we have the highest incarceration rate of any western country/democracy, and we still need more prisons.
I say- Arm the kindergarteners...that's the ticket. Firearms for everyone. It will be NRA utopia.
11
They probably knew about the ruling on the Sonics arena, and knew there would be NBA players in town.
12
Two words: ammunition tax.
13
One word: Tyranny

"First they came for the guns and I didn't say anything. Then they came for my freedom of speech, and I couldn't fight back..."

Open your history books class, flip past all the "whitey is bad" BS, and get to the parts where different peoples throughout history have been disarmed, then slaughtered. Then remind me again just how smart you are...
14
History is being ignored and the SLOG is now apparently a tool of social engineering, as are the numerous paid-for sock puppet comments that appear here. Social engineering -- it's the Fabian socialist path to success (nevermind the immorality of it all).

LISTEN TO @6.

The real action, universal background checks, HB 1588, is still alive. GET OFF YOUR ASS AND SUPPORT IT.

I'm starting to think that The Stranger's avoidance of real gun control that has a fighting chance is deliberate.
16
Well, I'm a flaming pinko commie liberal, and I oppose it. John Locke's 2nd treatise was right, and the founding fathers knew it.

But for the love of god, do close the gun show loophole. California style background checks now, plz.
17
@2 for the Win.

Look, the state Dems are never going to back action on this.

You make your own change.
18
@15 - seriously. Getting all worked up over an AWB when there's sensible stuff that would do way more to reduce gun-related injury and mortality. There was a recent Freakonomics podcast that addressed this - http://www.freakonomics.com/2013/02/14/h…

I really recommend you listen to it, Dan and Dom.

Please wait...
