Why are Repugnantcans so obsessed with women's vaginas?

My favorite comment was from Sue Swayze, who runs the "right to life" org that is loving this bill. It was something along the lines of "I had all my babies vaginally. So, I wouldn't mind having a big probe in me." No block quotes because not her exact wording. But, I love it when right to lifers admit their va-jay-jay is a giant blown-out hallway to throw hot dogs down.

Something I don't get is why health care professionals (like physicians!) aren't standing up en masse and saying "don't fucking tell me how to do my job, legislators, I'M the doctor here." I mean, do they ENJOY being told what to do by a group of old, white men, most of whom have absolutely zero medical knowledge whatsoever?

The morning after pill doesn't cause abortions, that's true, but there is a pill that causes abortion (RU486). Isn't that what this law is legislating? Or are the Republicans even stupider than I give them credit for?

@11 The AMA hasn't been an altruistic group for quite some time. They dug in their heels some 40 years ago to fight against universal health care, essentially declaring that they were in it for the money. The insurance, legal and pharmaceutical industries took notice, and are the ones raking in today's health care cash. Now, health care providers are in "Whatever pays the bills and doesn't get me sued" mode.

Also, apparently in Arkansas they are working on passing a bill that would restrict abortions to the moment a heartbeat could be heard, which is at about 12 weeks. It has a good chance of passing, even though SCOTUS has declared this unconstitutional already. SCOTUS has mandated that it is fetus viability outside the womb that is the tipping point. So they will pass a bill that will then cost tax payer money to fight, all the way back to the Supreme Court.

Here's what I don't get: these conservative state legislators are not smart enough to dream up the plethora of chillingly baroque and bureaucratically complex bills that are popping up on a regular basis.

They're obviously being generated by evil-genius think tanks (or religious city-states). The wellsprings need to be identified and relentlessly publicized.

Moreover, when these constructs do become law, they're so obviously sick and twisted as to be vulnerable to legal challenge—but only with years of effort and lots of money. This is a win-win for the cons; they get to suck some of the lifeblood out of many other movements to protect peoples' civil rights and well-being, and they gain a lot of control over women in the meantime.

I've had numerous trans-vaginal ultrasounds and they are damn uncomfortable. One of the not-so-uncomfortable ones I had was a medically necessary pre-abortion exam because, as a lucky Canadian living in a major urban center, I was able to book my abortion within a week of discovering I was pregnant and they couldn't successfully image the pregnancy externally. Early abortions are safer and less invasive, but do require trans-vaginal ultrasound if the exterior pelvic ultrasound is unable to image the gestational sac.

I really don't see how it's a legislators job or right to force doctors to perform exams or procedures that they deem medically unnecessary. Next thing you know they're going to require women seeking abortion services to report to their Governor's office and submit to medically unnecessary breast exams performed by the Governor's staff.

I'd like to see them try to pass legislation requiring men seeking vasectomies to submit to before-and-after prostate exams and deep urethral swabbing (for their own good, of course).

Well if one follows Ms Swayze's logic the mothers of the men who sponsor this bill should not have a problem with anyone telling their sons to go f#ck their mothers because that's where they came from.

I have too low an opinion of the GOP for this to come as a surprise. This sort of monstrous, misogynistic behavior is exactly what I expect, especially in flyover country.

Boy, it's going to be pretty easy to pin the "war on women" label on them come 2014.

Also, they're going to get killed on the Latino vote. I actually heard a Republican in Congress explain out loud that he didn't want to give green cards to illegal aliens, because that would let them work anywhere, so then who would do all of the really shitty jobs?
