If polyamorous, ignore it, and just use the normal heterosexual convention of referring to a man, his wife, and his mistress; or refer to the third partner as a "family friend".
One of the things that keeps me from wanting to actually marry Mr. Vel-DuRay is the word "husband". It just sounds so corny/porny. Not as bad as "lover", but almost.
@5: I've been using that word for years. "Corporate concubine" sounds so much better than "trophy wife" -- and covers a wider range of situations too. But I've been told that when it is a man who is being "kept" (by a financially-endowed woman or gay man) the term is "cockubine." Which isn't gender-neutral but is amusing.
