For years Rob McKenna has been at the vanguard of Washington state Republican opposition to Sound Transit, an agency whose mission has consistently had overwhelming support in the city of Seattle. If it were up to McKenna and his cohorts we would have no light rail now. Well, when you really get down to it, if it were up to McKenna and crowd, Seattle would by now be a bedroom community for the Eastside metropolitan center.

Republicans are the party of white, rural voters who hate everybody except their racist, bigoted, selfish selves. Oh, and rich pricks. They are the party of anti-science and anti-reason. They are the party of endless wars. And, if that's not enough "because", they are the party of gun manufacturers who flood our streets, schools and homes with death.

When was Wyman's support "open"? If memory serves she made all kinds of noise about how she wouldn't take a stand on "Social" issues. That said, people knew. So they gave her the benefit of the doubt that they couldn't give McKenna.

He's right. My opinion of Republicans has hardened to the point that I wouldn't piss on them if they were on fire. Let alone vote for them or their reality-denying policies.

The City is an outmoded political boundary.

For example, look at the neighborhoods at the edge of Seattle. They clearly are low density, maybe some townhouse apartments and car oriented.

Yet they are being soaked and oppressed by a bunch of power mad urbanists in the Downtown Syndicate who dont serve their needs.

I'd say at least 1/3 of what is controlled by Seattle would be better off as their own smaller towns.

At this point they will find their way to the Progressive Republican Agenda.

Since most states in the USA experience some kind of divide, politicians usually exploit that divide for their own gain. In McKenna's case, it's Seattle Envy, bringing a New York twist to the usual Eastern WA vs Western WA dynamic.

Like Rossi after 2004, it appears McKenna's not ready to go gently into that good night. Expect him to either run for governor again, or for the US Senate the next time one of those seats are up.

Since the letter "r" is so stupid I decree that we shall now be known as "Democats".

Quisp was far superior to Quake in so many ways: first, he was a freaking alien, while Quake was just a burly Dudley Do-Right wannabe in a miner's helmet. Second, the bowl-shape of Quisp did a much better job of holding milk, than Quake's "Q"'s, giving you a nice milk-to-cereal mix in your mouth.

here is the deal rob. say what you want about seattle, but it does have one of the highest rates of residents with a college degree. people who know how to read about stuff, and who are equipped (a little) to compare and question weird political shit, usually question the gop (R) and soon vote for the other party because they are better off. the republicans are proven anti-american scumbags, whereas, the democrats (overall) have only been that way since bill clinton, they still have some catching up to do in the overall corporate satan evil department there. they are making concrete strides however, with the vital help of others, like bill clinton still. he's a gamer that one.

You know, 20 years ago I might have been occasionally talked into voting for a moderate republican, at least if he were running against a notably incompetent democrat. And Rob McKenna used to at least pretend to hold moderate views. But the Republican brand has slowly been jettisoning all of its moderates, and sliding farther and farther to the fringe right wing. And McKenna right along with the rest of his crazy party.

Fuck them.

The moderate McKenna of 20 years ago might have supported R-74, and I might have considered voting for that moderate McKenna (depending on who he ran against). But his opposition to R-74 had everything to do with why I wouldn't even consider voting for him now.

No amount of rebranding can conceal the fact that the Republican party has become wholly racist, homophobic, and tools of the religious right and corporate profiteers.

Really? Does he have any data to support that claim or is it just pure conjecture? Is the statement reality-based or myth-based?

The biggest problem with the Republican party - at every level - is that it has chosen to be myth-based instead of reality-based. There is also the pattern of Republicans, when elected, who strike political poses instead of governing.

As P.J. O'Rourke said: "The Republicans are the party that says government doesn't work and then they get elected and prove it."
