"I guess they just don't think that low-income workers should ever be able to afford to take family and medical leave... which doesn't sound either moderate or Democratic to me."
But it sure does sound very Republican, doesn't it? Wolf, meet sheep's clothing.
Betcha Tom does a lot more awful stuff like this once he realizes how badly his bridges have been burned and feels the need to secure that soft post legislator landing for himself, assuming this isn't part of him making that move already.
This is what happens when people mindlessly cast their vote for the letter after someone's name, without looking at the candidate's actual positions or beliefs.
The GOP label comes with a price, and so does caucusing with the GOP. They exercise lots of party discipline in ways the Democratic Party never has. Vote the party line or lose funding, or get primaried, or lose your committee assignment.
It has become increasingly clear that Rodney Tom and his fellow Republicans are taking advantage of their rare majority to eliminate as many "big" government programs as they can while they have power. First GET and now this, two programs which don't cost the state anything, yet have for some reason become priorities to cut.
Meanwhile, the new 'fiscally responsible' leadership in the state Senate is using our tax dollars to remodel their new offices and ordering new furniture. They're true colors are going to show more and more each passing day, and the public isn't going to like what it sees.
But it sure does sound very Republican, doesn't it? Wolf, meet sheep's clothing.
