removed the military ban on women in combat

Not sure whether to say "Congratulations!" or "Better them than me."
2
About time.
3
Yes, more opportunities for more Americans to kill poor brown people in other countries.

PROGRESS!!

there is no such thing as "awesome lady-in-the-military" news, because there is no such thing as awesome military news.

unless it is news of a 33% reduction in the size of the budget for our imperial forces.

still, congrats i guess.
5
Come on, you apes, you want to live forever?

My dream of Starship Troopers in real life has come to pass.
6
I'm uneasy with it. My understanding is the Israelis tried it and rescinded it when it when they discovered some female soldiers who died in combat were pregnant. It also, opens up the path for women to be drafted which I know doesn't sit well with men but just might not sit well with women.
7
Some people think killing brown kids overseas and dying for corproate profit is progress......
8
@6: You need to get your information from some where other than World News Daily.
9
As a member of a military family, I am pleased that this is happening. Combat experience is a faster track to promotion and influence. The more women who make it up through the ranks the better for the culture with in the Armed Forces over all.
How, and against whom, we use our military is a different issue.
10
Wow, about time. For too long we've been drumming skilled women out of active duty because of these limitations. This opens up many career tracks which women wouldn't consider before because they knew a glass ceiling would eventually prevent them from advancing in rank.
11
@8 is correct. @6 is a combat avoiding REMF.
12
@5

Next up - coed showers.
13
@12 not that big an issue, actually. Other NATO forces have had those for decades.
14
(by coed showers I mean shower units with a 175 cm height divider between women and men)
15
@9 @10 that's true for female officers trying to transition to becoming general officers only.

On the enlisted side, you can move from E1 to E9 from any MOS.

This is a political game aimed at getting more female general officers. Whether it actually will have any benefit for enlisted soldiers is dubious at best.

Please wait...
