I'm uneasy with it. My understanding is the Israelis tried it and rescinded it when it when they discovered some female soldiers who died in combat were pregnant. It also, opens up the path for women to be drafted which I know doesn't sit well with men but just might not sit well with women.
As a member of a military family, I am pleased that this is happening. Combat experience is a faster track to promotion and influence. The more women who make it up through the ranks the better for the culture with in the Armed Forces over all.
How, and against whom, we use our military is a different issue.
Wow, about time. For too long we've been drumming skilled women out of active duty because of these limitations. This opens up many career tracks which women wouldn't consider before because they knew a glass ceiling would eventually prevent them from advancing in rank.
@9 @10 that's true for female officers trying to transition to becoming general officers only.
On the enlisted side, you can move from E1 to E9 from any MOS.
This is a political game aimed at getting more female general officers. Whether it actually will have any benefit for enlisted soldiers is dubious at best.
Not sure whether to say "Congratulations!" or "Better them than me."
PROGRESS!!
unless it is news of a 33% reduction in the size of the budget for our imperial forces.
still, congrats i guess.
My dream of Starship Troopers in real life has come to pass.
