What do you mean we, kemo sabe?
2
NBC is showing the LA/Chicago game here on the west coast instead of the Flyers/pens game. And, it's also blacked out on Gamecenter. I'm screwed. No way to watch.

And that fact is driving me mad!

Why did they even bother to end the lock out?

(Pouting over a beer now)

@2 Check Reddit.com/r/hockey tomorrow! They almost always have a game thread for whatever games are happening each day, and people post links to free streams. Sometimes they're not the greatest quality, but better than nothing, right? Maybe?
4
$50? I feel dirty, but NHL got me for that price.
6
The Sharks don't start until Sunday. But still. Hockey! I will have to think over the $50.00 Center Ice deal. Hmmmmm.
7
@6 Make sure you get the Gamecenter package, not Center Ice. Gamecenter allows streaming through your computer/ps3/phone, while Center Ice is through your cable company. Also Gamecenter has all of them in HD as opposed to Center Ice which only has a game or two a day in HD.

Let's go Buffalo!

I got Gamecenter, but the app for Roku won't be ready for another week or so. So mad! But also, so happy because HOCKEY!
9
@3 Megan, are you going to the Angry Beaver to watch games tomorrow? I think that's where I'm headed. I want to celebrate the return of hockey in the company of others.

Impromptu hockey Slog Happy, anyone?
10
@7. Thanks for the clarification.
11
Tim Horton's and Kokanee Beer or it didn't happen.
12
congrats megan. i used to play some hockey too but that was a long time ago. like pele lindberg was still alive and shit.
13
lindbergh vs fuhr was a big deal back when we played. the oilers were so tough in 1983-86 that i rooted for anyone else to beat them, at the time it was either the flyers or the islanders, or bruins sometimes. i also miss those old canadian teams, like the quebec nordiques.
14
Will have my canucks hoodie on tomorrow. Can't wait to see the Sedins back in action.
15
I can't get excited unless there's live footage of Gary Bettman getting flayed then having salt and vinegar poured over him before the first game.
16
you know, the nhl should allow women players for real. totally seriously. very few players actually fight anyways so that would not be an issue. it should be the one league that does that. i have a female relative that messed dudes up at ice hockey. like actually beat them up and stuff. also, it needs european and more canadian teams. fuck this arizona florida shit. nobody plays hockey in fucking arizona.
17
Gotta put in a good word for my Pens. Oh, we'll miss Staal, though Brandon Sutter carries on the family's colours very well. It probably depends on which Fleury shows up this year. I'll worry if Vokoun plays more than about once every 10 days or so.

But hey, it's HOCKEY!
18
How much will the Avs stink this year? Let's find out! Woot!
19
Forget about NBC, the best hockey today is on CBC's Hockey night in Canada! 3 games back-back-to back. Go Canucks!
20
@ 19, isn't that just reserved for "Hockey Day in Canada," the one Saturday during the season when Canadian teams only play Canadian teams? (Except that they now have seven Canadian teams, so one has to play an American team.) Otherwise Hockey Night in Canada just has two games. At least that's how it was when I was living in Seattle.

I miss CBC. They don't offer it in Denver.
21
Nope, Hockey NIGHT in Canada is a 60+ year tradition. From Wikipedia:

Hockey Night in Canada is primarily associated with its Saturday night NHL broadcasts, a practice originating from Saturday NHL broadcasts that began in 1931 on the CNR Radio network and its predecessors, and debuting on television beginning in 1952. Initially only airing a single game weekly, the modern incarnation airs a weekly double-header, various segments during the intermissions and between games (such as Don Cherry's Coach's Corner), and pre and post-game coverage of the night's games.

You're right Hockey Day in Canada does happen once per season and features all Canadian teams. This season it's feb. 9

@ 21, you actually confirmed my observation: "...the modern incarnation airs a weekly double-header..." You said they show three games. (Which they did yesterday, I believe - either that's new, or it was special for the late season opener.)

Please wait...
