I concur. If you don't like porn stars because they have sex for money, that's one thing, but dislike them for what they actually do, not what they don't actually do.
2
Yeah I totally think Russell Wilson is going to get that NFL Rookie of the Year award. The Seahawks re-building years are over, SF cant just coast to claim the NFC West and with St Louis doing better, the division is going to be a feeding frenzy.
3
I liked how the article noted that James Deen is known for taking out the trash on set and making sure the replacement bag is properly knotted. More James Deens and fewer Lindsay Lohans in the world, please.
4
Did anybody notice how the writer kept spelling Deen's name as "Dean"? Doesn't the NYT have people who check that sort of thing?
5
first trailer is out...when he wakes up and starts yelling at her...it's pretty easy to find porn scenes where he progresses to fuck the shit out of a woman in similar fashion

6
huh??
7
Could we also PLEASE drop the absurd notion that Deen is in need of cash?
8
@4, the article has been corrected - look again. NYT calls it an editing error. I'd bet a million dollars Rodrick got it right to begin with. We should give him more credit for a great article, and I wish Jasun gave him props for establishing the premise he claims as his own.

@7

Because he's made like two thousand movies. If he has trouble making rent, then right there is what's wrong with porn.
10
And P.S. to fans of the NYT article - a nice blog followup with the writer: http://6thfloor.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/0…

James Deen is not doing porn for survival. He does it because he likes it.

Good lord. Five minutes of reading up on the guy and you'll find out he has an absurd level of income and still has his bar mitzvah money untouched in the bank.

Can't a guy have a work ethic and a dedication to his job without starving as motivation? He might not be as rich as a Hollywood mega-star, but he's not some pitiful pauper fucking hot ladies to pay for his mac and cheese.
12
Could we also PLEASE drop the absurd notion that Deen is in need of cash?
Why? Everybody who isn't a trust fund parasite is in need of cash; it's just a question of degree and timing.
13
@12

LOL.
14
I'm sure trust fund parasites want more money too, they just aren't willing to work for it.
15
@9: The article says it's about four thousand (page 3, describing how Ellis wrote the script with him in mind).

And for those interested in more perspective from successful porn actors, Stoya's "Ask Me Anything" on Reddit should be interesting. For what it's worth, Stoya says she is paid well, and puts most of it in savings. Though this does seem an appropriate industry (straight porn) where women should be making substantially more than men.

Having worked in the movie business there is no undervaluing talent that places working principle, professionalism, and ethic above "stardom."

If you've not worked on a movie set you have no idea how fucking miserable it can be when you don't have those qualities in your talent (I include directors in that assessment, BTW).

Sometimes I hear people wonder why one particular actor seems to get so much hi-profile work when they're not that great on screen and other actors, that seem so great on screen, don't seem to get hi-profile work? I'll tell you why. Because that actor that get's work is is joy to work around and the other so-called great actor who doesn't is a fucking douche bag.

Everybody tend to hate on actors like Julia Roberts and Tom Hanks. But they are great to work with. And I'd take a hundred of them for every douchey Sean Penn.

17
Everyone knows that Lohan is a train-wreck who is a nightmare to work with. Why the hell do they cast her? It's no surprise. It really pisses me off when people take umbrage because somebody behaves the way they always do. I learned this lessen early in life. You know the friend that gets drunk, pukes and/or gets belligerent? Looooong since dumped.
18
Dan, "Jasun" not "Jasum".
19
Yes, it's Jasun Mark, Dan as noted above. Also, the last quote is from Jasun, not Rodrick.
20
Uh, sorry Mr. Porn Star but I don't think the work ethic of the actors has anything to do with why "the mainstream industry so clearly looks down on porn and dismissed the script as “pornography.”" Might want to watch a few instead of just acting in them. Try not to fast-forward to the fucking.
21
Chi Type, Jasun Mark isn't a porn star, he's a porn director. And quite a good one.

He directed the Fratpad Jack off races that were hot and funny and copied by hundreds of people. He did Splatter in the Grass which was a beautiful dream-like movie shot in direct sunlight and his new movie Nightfall is like Matrix and Blade Runner meets gay sex.

But your sex-phobic answer makes it pretty clear how you feel. You think people should be looked down on for having sex. And you're reading the wrong blog.

Please wait...
