Well, it was a good season.

On the plus side, I won't have to listen to any more grating Seahawks and Seahawks-related radio ads.
2
I haven't been watching too closely, but what little I've seen sure looked like the Falcons' defense has been ruthlessly dominant.
3
Go igles!
4
you know it's bad when your own momma calls you to gloat.
and cackling. like that witch they kilt with that bucket of water.

It's interesting because hitching your loyalty to a winning team is like getting a free ride. You don't have to be as good at anything yourself, if your team does well...just show loyalty. It is like working for a large corporation.

When my team starts to lose, I detach. Am I a fair weather fan? Sometimes, because it seems that's they way everyone is these days. Do I blame people? No. Over the years the People have been made small, and loyalty is for the Giants.

We, the People, go with the guys who bring home the buffalo.

Sad trombone...

@5

"Go team!" essentially just boils down to "Go ME!" It's pretty pathetic to watch these big dumb ape fans get SO into it when it's clearly just this psychological substitute that they need to work their shit out in.

"Super" fans have major issues. "Fair-weather" fans have fun when excitement is high around them, but quickly move on. "Non" fans have a life.
8
Not so fast...
9
@8 It's all my fault. I took my dog for a walk when the Seahawks were trailing 20-0, and come back to find the Seahawks trailing 27-21, with the Seahawks driving. So I'll just turn off the TV for the sake of Seattle fans.
10
Hello riz. Looks like this makes you Dorothy baby.
11
Wow, amazing comeback.
12
Nate Silver will not be denied.
13
GO DOLPHINS!!!!!
14
Go Atlanta....
15
WTFUCK
16
I watched the end of the game after all. My bad.
17
Is it legal to take a snap and kick after a called timeout?
18
What happened to the Seahawks' defense? This is really on them. Good for Russell Wilson.
19
17

hell no.

that play should not count......
20
Nate Silver, false prophet
21
@15.. looks like i'll need a bigger bucket.... next time..
22
Did anyone else see Pete Carrol clearly ask the ref for a timeout to ice the kicker, and then try to claim to another ref that he did not call the time out after the first kick went wide?

Oh Pete Carrol...trying to cheat till the very end. At least he is consistant. Seahawks go home again with nothing to put in the trophy case. Glad to see the refs keeping Seattle's defense honest in this one.

Was wondering if maybe that last hail mary that was intercepted might get called a touchdown for Seattle again.

@7: Hey, could you sign me up for your newsletter where you talk about how much better you are than other people for arbitrary reasons? Elitist windbag.
23

Rockin' the Mariners hoody for January!
24
Seattle has a long tradition of its teams shitting the bed in the playoffs - just as the city has a long tradition, unfortunately, of fair-weather fans who only go to games when the teams are winning. I've always found that rather buck-toothed and ball-less, frankly. Fans don't have a right to complain unless they support the team even when the team has a losing season.
25
@22 Truth hurts, I know.
26
Ahhhh! The righteous superiority of the "non" fan @7. Talk about having "issues." If you do indeed "have a life", you clown, quit crapping on other people's life.
27
@5: like hang out on Slog and pat yourself on the back... Now that's the life! Argo-fuckyerself.
28
Make that @7. Apologies to 5.
29
It's an entertainment product, not a tribal affiliation. I enjoy consuming the entertainment product more when the team is winning.
30
I'm pretty sure that Nate Silver just said that Football Outsider predicted the Seahawks to go to the SuperBall.
31
@22 The 'hawks deserved to lose because of that. Teams and coaches that try that maneuver should be penalized.
32
Nate Silver would still be right if Pete Carroll hadn't had that hormone surge at the end of the 1st half.
33
Icing the kicker=dumb stereotypical move. I doubt it really does anything. Not scoring a field goal at end of 1st half Very dumb!! But the Seahawks did Much better than anyone thought, and they have an exciting QB! will love 2 see them next year at whatsis link field.
34
Good points by Goldy.

I can't call myself a Seahawks fan, but I've always liked them and have been thrilled by this wild and wonderful and imagination-defying year they've had. And I'm utterly indifferent to the Falcons and the city of Atlanta. But I have to confess I was rooting just a bit for the Falcons today, if only because a Falcons loss would likely have been the final game for the great Tony Gonzalez, and he'd be retiring without having won a single playoff game in his career.

But then as the Hawks were mounting their comeback, I got swept up in the moment. Well, if you're going to lose in the playoffs, this is the way to lose, and this is the point in a team's development to lose. The Hawks can exit with their heads held high. The same can' t be said for the Denver Broncos and Green Bay Packers.
35
Well, it's a shame. That's what it is. My condolences to the fans. I was truly excited. I thought it would be something of a camp to have a Seattle team in any sort of championship.

And to top it off, we've got a burn ban!
36
We still have the possibility of a Harbaugh-on-Harbaugh superbowl.
37
So one takeaway, I guess, is that politics are much more predictable than sports. Thanks for playing, Nate.

Mudede was right. To paraphrase, "I've been living in this city for twenty years and the choke has never failed me." Maybe there's a Great Bambino-level hex on the city brought on by Charles Mudede?

A hex that doesn't affect the Seattle Storm? (Don't forget them, Catalina.)

@36 Good point! Who needs Manning vs. Manning?

38
I'm with @22, the cheating this season has been brazen. that's actually in part why I've thoroughly enjoyed the Seahawks this year. now I would just like to see what Russel Wilson could do without an asshole coach and an inept running team.

anyway, I came into the game late and I'm glad I did. from the end of the 3rd quarter on it was really exciting to watch. prior to that I probably just would have been swearing a lot. despite the outcome it was a really good game.
39
What all you doods at 22, 31 and 38 don't get is what 17 could have stated more clearly. Carroll was not "cheating" or claiming that he did not, in fact, call the TO. What he was crabbing about was that the center snapped and the kicker took a practice shot after the TO was called.

The play should not have happened although I don't believe there is a penalty in the rulebook covering that instance. If anyone was cheating on that play it was the Atlanta kicking team.
40
@39: Whenever a coach does that, the kicker always makes the kick. Every single time. Coaches know this, and no one has ever considered it akin to what Tucker did in the Ravens-Broncos game, which was come out during a time out, and literally just take a practice kick. That does not happen, and should not. First time I ever saw it in decades of watching football.

Carroll knows it was not really a "practice kick" scenario which he discussed with the refs. He knows that a kicker will always take that kick, if only to be sure that he was not mistaken about the whistle/call. The kicker ALWAYS takes that kick, and Carroll knows it.

This was a minor incident, and really just struck me as funny...a known and proud cheater like Carroll begging for a bullshit call so he can win. Carroll always somehow has a dirty and cheap team wherever he goes, and this Seahawks team is no exception.

41
Goldy, how come you stayed home and watched a stupid ball game? I thought you were lending support to the antigun rally today? I'm confused. What was more important?! I thought you were going to help us change the gun culture in this country! I guess you just exploit the death of children to score hits on SLOG after all. You are full of shit. We needed you and everyone else out there today. Instead only about 100 people showed up. I guess you think it's everyone else's job to make change happen. Sad and pathetic goldy. Really sad.
43
@29 That's where you're wrong. Sports worship has always seemed to me like a false tribalism. It's a lazy, easy way to let everyone have an us-or-them mentality based solely on geography. Modern society disrupts true tribalism with high personal mobility, and people seem to love to substitute this shit.

I've never lived in a city with multiple teams in a single sport, so I don't know how that plays out.
44
@38 An inept running team? Marshawn Lynch has the second most yards from the line of scrimmage in the NFL with only Adrian Peterson ahead of him in a season where AP almost broke Eric Dickerson's single-season total yards record. Marshawn Lynch was also voted an NFL All-Pro by the associated press indicating him one of the best in the game and was voted into the Pro Bowl.

Inept running game? Get informed before you open your mouth.
45
Also I have a question for fans of the West Jersey Shit-Birds; do you think Andy Reid took the Chiefs job because he has to coach in a place where a young man died?
46
@44: Lynch is 3rd on the regular season for total yards behind Alfred Morris.
47
@46 Don't pick at knits with me. My point still stands.
48
@47: *nits

Sorry, could not resist that one. But best to get your facts straight before you call someone else uneducated.

But we can all agree that the Eagles can eat a collective bag of dicks. Every year that team gets hyped up for their speed and youth, and every year there they are, the bottom of the division.

49
I forgot that Alfred Morris played the night game and passed Marshawn by 23 pissant yards. The point was that butthole called the Seahawks an inept running team and inept running teams don't produce All-Pro running backs. In fact the Seahawks had the third best rushing offense in the NFL this year. When you are top three you are not inept. You are elite.
50
@49

go fuck your mother. all I meant was that the best plays the Seahawks had this year were passes or when Wilson himself rushed the ball. sure, I should have chosen my wording better, and yes, Lynch was a stellar exception out of the entire rushing line, but I'm allowed to think what I think. your taking exception my use of a single word to convey that I don't think they're rushing game was overly electric just beleaguered my main point. I was praising Wilson, a rookie with an amazing season, and you decide to drop a "hey! what about this guy??" and insult me...awesome. you've basically proven why people think football obsessives are a bunch of apes, so well done sir!
51
Why would I fuck my mother when yours lets me put it all three holes? You still don't know what you're talking about. It doesn't matter what you "think" of the rushing game, sheer number prove you wrong. If you don't want to be called on your shit don't talk out of your ass. Lynch is a bell-cow running back and one of the elites of the league.
52
*slow clap*
53
*internet meme indicating being unable to defend your position.*
54
no, you just care about this a lot more than I do.
55
also when it comes to the internet I'm am incredibly lazy

Please wait...
