The (now expired) assault weapons ban banned high capacity magazines. People are stocking up now because they believe a similar law to the old assault weapons ban will be enacted again.
Ammo may or may not go bad, but the modern stuff has a shelf life of 50 years or so. Maybe longer. Gunpowder keeps a long, long time too if stored correctly. And handmade rounds are no different in that respect from the factory-made ones. In fact, it's almost exactly the same process, just on a much smaller scale.
Newtown notwithstanding, I think a very significant majority of massacres have occurred at the hands of people who haven't stockpiled weapons and ammo until the time they decide to go shooting up people they've never met. So I'm not about to fear mass shootings any more than I already do.
Still, it's just one more piece of evidence that average gun nuts, like the average conservatives, have enlarged "fear centers" in their brains.
The stranger staff should take a group holiday and shoot some automatic weapons at Wades. Get familiar with the specs, nuances, and differences between the firearms they so roundly denounce without a shred of credibility. Merry Christmas Everywun!!!
Now another shooter has killed two firemen. Thanks to the relentless drumbeat of worthless fucks like Stranger "journalists", crazy people are now trying to outdo each other. Congratulations Stranger!
Then DHS, who does not fight wars with foreign nations, promptly ordered the maximum of 450 million rounds over five years, almost exclusively Jacketed Hollow Point bullets, which are banned by the Geneva convention and can only be used domestically: http://www.businessinsider.com/us-immigr…
In late summer the National Weather Service ordered about 46,000 rounds of .40 S&W Jacketed Hollow Point bullets to be delivered to four locations – offices in Florida, New Jersey, Maine and Massachusetts: http://www.businessinsider.com/the-natio…
The Social Security Administration put in an order for 174,000 rounds of .357 Sig Jacketed Hollow Point bullets, for locations in Baltimore, L.A., Detroit, Oklahoma City, Dallas, Houston, Atlanta, Denver, Philly, Pittsburgh and Seattle ...... What? http://www.businessinsider.com/why-does-…
@13 The Stranger's coverage has been to minimize the celebrity of the killer, and to scream about how he was enabled.
It's been appropriate.
But, I get your point that any acknowledgment of the killer's impact is, to some degree, fodder for the next.
If I could: Find every occurrence of the killer's name, everywhere and replace it with a numerical substitute forever more Something like: "selfish asshole 20121214-001".
One does not need to know the precise mechanical operations of an internal combustion engine in order to competently drive an automobile, just as one does not need to know the intricacies of a binary-mode electronic digital computational device in order to be able to type drivel on the Internet.

Magazine≠Ammo
just so you know.......
Here's What's REALLY Scary......
A "journalist" who presumes to lecture about guns who doesn't know the difference between a magazine and ammunition.
And,
scarier yet,
the Liberal Media is FULL of cupcakes like her......
Back in March DHS awarded an indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract to this company:

@9 that was one of the caveats of living through the Bulls dynasty in Chicago. The better the team did the higher the body count.
