Now is the time to be a real leader. I want to hear solutions from the president, as he will likely have most of the country behind him.

Tipping point.

Agreed.

Tipping point.

Nothing is going to happen. Obama doesn't care, Congress doesn't care, and the NRA/gun owners certainly don't care. Let's not delude ourselves into thinking otherwise.
5
Completely inconsequential. The roll of mourner-in-chief is pointless bullshit. America's obsession with these tragedies makes us scared, stupid, and encourages the next lunatic to try to do it bigger and better. I'd be so happy if the President just sent out a one paragraph letter that said "Of course I'm heartbroken by a massacre of children. Now everyone hug your kids and get on with your life." But behavior that rational just isn't politically possible anymore because this country has gotten too stupid.
6
@4: plenty of people in the adminstration and congress care. they also know that nothing can be done politically with the GOP in charge of Congress, & that the NRA's 40 year campaign has stifled all debate and led us to this point.
7
@4 Yeah, with that attitude, you're right, nothing will change.

Write your representative and senators. Sign the demand change pledge.

Donate. Build a voice stronger than the NRA. Hold the fuckers who accept their money accountable.

Crazy people can get guns, and shoot people. So, let's enable defense by giving more people more guns.

Realistic solutions can't be talked about in daylight. The cycle continues, and innocent people die.

Welcome to the arms race of the new Cold War.

@ 7,

When the horrid, sadistic, hate-crazed, old white people start getting shot up, then maybe we'll get reasonable gun control laws, but until someone gives the leaders at NRA headquarters an Abe Lincoln scalp massage, it ain't gonna happen.

America needs compassionate policies...comprehensive healthcare and mental health care....a ratcheting down of the contentious public conversation... AND GUN CONTROL.
13
Abe Lincoln scalp massage. Nice.

@10 You should change your handle to "LearnedHelplessness"

The media needs to take responsibility for it's roll in this shit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PezlFNTG…

Ok gun control, sure.

But what the fuck is wrong with our society where people become so mentally unstable and/or lonely and isolated that they think it's a good plan to go and shoot up a bunch of people in a public place? WTmotherfuckingF?!

Is it just the alienation of urban anomie? Are the stresses of modern life (so fucking expensive, shite social support, retarted emotionlist politics) just too much for these people? Are families broken down so much that they don't see this happening in their offspring? Or are they too dumb in general? It's so baffling.

Yes, access to automatic weaponry is a problem.... but underlying that is the far greater problem the social illness that is loneliness and mental instability.

You know, "Bob" Dobbs said that watching our society slowly crumble would be too much for the average mind to handle. He was clearly right.

My absolute and deep condolences to the families who had such a terrible, terrible loss today...

Another crazed young shooter in his twenties.

Doesn't quite fit the SLOG profile.

But it should...

I think you should pull the name of the gunman off this post. I think every other media source should, too, even though I know it won't happen.

I want those who do this sort of thing to remain anonymous. More specifically, I do not want the other angry lone nuts of the world to know that they will be guaranteed infamy for causing so much suffering on this earth. Because that contributes to the problem - probably more than you appreciate.

I implore you to not mention the gunman's name. Ever. Even if you get it right this time.

His Name is Robert Paulson! His Name is Robert Paulson! His Name is Robert Paulson!

As long as there evil people in the world evil things will happen. Why don't we just take it to the top and blame it on God for letting it happen in the first place! As the Nation Reflects So Should We
We here at Seattle School District Exposed would like to take a moment to acknowledge resent events. The loss of 26 innocent people (20 children and 6 adults) at Sandy Hook Elementary has rocked us and the nation to the very core. Our deepest sympathy and condolences go out to the families of the victims and the families of children who's lives have been forever changed.

It has been no secret that SSDE has felt the the Seattle School District has been failing to adequately provide security and protection to our children. In light of this recent tragedy we feel obligated to once again bring this matter to the forefront.

After looking into the matter during the school board election we have found that while "Security Specialists" are assigned to High Schools and Middle Schools no Elementary School has been assigned one. The rationale behind not giving Elementary Schools "Security Specialists" is that there aren't enough "severe" incidents at Elementary Schools to need "Security Specialists". In short, employing a "Security Specialist" to stay at an Elementary School is not cost effective. A better business model being employing "Security Specialists" to mobile patrols that conduct checks and respond to Elementary Schools.

The ideal situation would be that no school would ever need security. This however is sadly not the case. While the need for security has been reduced to triage, it has been applied wrongly in this situation. The school districts criteria for security has obviously been about severe instances among students. When one looks at the elementary level of "severe" instances one must look out side the student body for the threat, children are more vulnerable to adults than any preteen or teen. It is the violence of others that we must take into account.

Every High School in the district has at least two security guards some three. Every middle school has one. But not one is assigned to an Elementary School. These "Mobile Security Specialists" are to make security checks and respond to "Severe" incidents at Elementary Schools. The thought that they respond to trouble is somewhat comforting, but that they would have a response time like the police is not.

This is something that we feel needs to be addressed. This is not meant to be confrontational or political, now is not the time for hyperbole. We as a community, and as a city, have to look at these children and ask ourselves if our pride is worth more to us than protecting our children.
