@1 actually that is the cream - the "plat de résistance" - hearing your inmate beg forgiveness from you - for the sin of oral sexual congress with another man while you inflict said congress upon him simultaneously.
The power to cause the sin and the power to absolve the sin all while getting to suck cock.
As you may know, November is a busy time for Father Roy Bourgeois. His organization, SOA Watch, just wrapped up the annual protest to close the School of Assassins and commemorate the 1989 massacre at the Universidad Centroamerican in El Salvador. Why am I bringing him up here? Despite all this good work, the Catholic Church has excommunidated him for supporting the ordination of a woman.
Iono. This guy had sex with grown men. Yes, it was an enormous abuse of power, so perhaps that counts for something, but I'm afraid it's still only rape of kids that's a sacrament. So he'll probably get defrocked. But not excommunicated no. This is just a sin, not a grievous one.
This is dreadful. One would have though that the Church would have learned to deal harshly with molesters in 2002 when the big molestation scandals broke. The Church has always been slow to learn.
@10 a lot of Catholics see this is another example of hypocritical and unethical behavior by an instituition trapped in its self-generated web of arrogance, deceipt, lies, and corruption. Some of us still hope that the small amount of good the church's members do can continue while the heirarchy self-immolates and new thinking and governance can take over. I know, it probably wont happen...the best i hope for is that an 'american' catholic church can evolve quikly breaking free from roman dictates...maybe bankruptcy and/or legal troubles and lawsuits can force the business side of the church to create an entity in the US separate from Rome, and then the belief system evolve separately from Rome, kinda like other sects (Coptic) who have different rules, like allowing married clergy.
@10: HomoSecularAtheist is redundant. By definition, to be an atheist (small "a", that's not a proper title) is to be secular, and of course we're all homos by extension, naturally.
Also, I wasn't aware that MTV was so hateful towards gays. But who the hell watches The Real World anymore anyway (or MTV, for that matter), other than those stuck in a time warp? So I guess it wouldn't matter to anyone other than you and the Catholic Church.
Anyway, in regards to this post:
Once this guy is formally charged, let's hope he gets thrown back into the same prison. I can't think of a more fitting punishment.
#9 - Sorry to be pedantic, but being gay is not a sin in the eyes of the Church. Acting on sexual impulses - gay or straight - outside of the sacrament of marriage is what is sinful.
The power to cause the sin and the power to absolve the sin all while getting to suck cock.
Danny and the HomoSecularAtheists see this as a "bad bad Catholic Church" story.
The Real World sees this as a "Homosexuals are disgusting creeps who destroy every institution they infest" story.
Imagine, if one could magically erase all the clergy who have had sex with a male out of the church what a different institution it would be.....
