Look! A Republican who cares more about his constituents than ensuring his party's domination!
2
Yes. Does Christie see the handwriting on the wall- that the GOP will implode between now and 2016 due to its unsustainable teabaggy+fundie kook craziness ?

Perhaps he's starting a long game of playing for the moderate-right sensible survivors that come out of that implosion. He has to have his eyes on running in 2016, and this strategy could play very well. I would look forward to seeing a respectable non-kook GOP return to the field.
3
He's just going to fucking lie when he speaks.
4
Christie appreciates the odds on who will win. (...unlike most of the national media who want to report "neck-and-neck" because some bright-bulb has told them that promoting a cliff-hanger gets them eyeballs)
5
This definitely means that 1) Christie has a strong sense for who will win this year 2) he's broken with the Romney camp, and 3) he knows that keeping his options open for 2016 will require Romney losing. Why not appear bipartisan, setting himself up as selfless leader, while also giving Romney a little push over the ledge? The shocking thing here isn't that he's doing it, but that it's so blatantly transparent.
6
Giving credit where credit is due is always commendable.
7
This is hardly a surprise. Christie's speech at the GOP was hardly a ringing endorsement of Romney. He's not a complete idiot.

But speaking of credit where it's due: I have to hand it to Christie on this one. I guess he learned his lesson after his big blizzard faux pas a few years back.

@6
Weren't you the one supporting Trump's claim that his investigators had found "stuff" that "you wouldn't believe" about Obama's birth certificate?
Yes, that was you.
You defend racists and bigots.
And now you want to praise someone for praising someone else's work?

How does that work?
Obama sucks until he has something that someone needs AND PROVIDES IT WITHOUT ANY POLITICAL HASSLE because there is a crisis and people will suffer if he doesn't.
So, how did that "raise the debt ceiling thing work"?
You remember.
Right before the USofA's credit rating was downgraded.
9
He's a strange one, this Christie.
10
Not strange at all. @5 nailed it perfectly.
11
He followed up this reasoned talk by saying on Piers Morgan, "It's time that we suck it up and deal with this. One day to wallow and then we need to move on."

Dude is cold and calculating.
12
And like that, the largest rat is off the USS Rmoney. Expect many more to follow in the next week and change.
13
What? No mention of the GLORIOUS clip where Christie basically tells the Fox News guys to fuck off when they try to get Romney some hurricane relief attention?

14
@7: Love your new Avatar Catalina, looks like you're wondering whether to have a Manhattan or a Martini.

@8: Lighten up honey. You're overdoing it.

15
Wow @13, thanks for posting that.

The Faux News talking hairdo struggles mightily to somehow bend the conversation back to how great Romney is after Christie heaps praise on Obama for acting like the adult and setting politics aside during an emergency.

You could tell that Christie's answer was not at all what the talking hairdo was expecting to hear.

Thank you Mr. Obama, and thank you Mr. Christie. My best wishes to everyone on the east coast/northeast dealing with the effects of Hurricane Sandy.

#12 FTW. The SS Reality will be cruising through the area, picking up survivors of the capsized SS Romney. We understand if you prefer to go down with the ship, and will respect your decision. But the Reality will be there when and if you change your minds. We've got life vests, blankets, and hot cocoa.

Romney Campaign to Deliver Supplies to Storm Victims

The Romney/Ryan campaign bus will have a new mission over the next several days. Rather than transporting the candidates from stop to stop, the bus will be used to deliver relief supplies to those struck by Hurricane Sandy.

@15: while I generally like Obama, and support him in this election, I think it's a bit of a stretch to say he's "putting politics aside." He's playing politics to the absolute best of his ability, with good results. He sees a situation that could make or break his campaign and he's pulling out all the stops to come out smelling like a rose. If he fucked this up, even a little, the whole thing would be over for him. I'm happy that Chris Christie is publicly praising the president, but I would never once, not for a second, declare that either of them is acting without political motivation.
19
@17
Wouldn't renting a truck be better? They're built to haul boxes and such. Don't buses have seats and so forth which would make loading and unloading boxes more difficult?
20
@17 and the bus will be full of cake
21
@20,
And books of mormon.
22
@20 FTW
23
@17: File under 'Too little, too late'
24
Why would Romney want to say anything about this, Charles?
25
As a political junkie, I find it disappointing to see Romney assume the fetal position here.

Hell, the Detroit Tigers, down 0-3 in the World Series - a 95% loser proposition - fought back with everything they had.

Wake up Romney. I'm bored.

26
I must say, as one who has preferred the old 'your father's Republican party' that has been extinct as of late, as at least Mittens is concerned, his tin ear towards helping the humanity of the American people is excruciating, and undermines the intellectual premises both parties have enjoyed, ever since Roosevelt to George H W Bush.

#19

From what I read in the local news there are many people stranded in areas like Hoboken (20,000!) where sewer water has entered the drinking supplu and there is still no power. This says nothing about what the streets and homes will be like when the waters recede..mold, filth. A bus might at least be able to ferry some passengers to shelter.
28
@6 how many days till the election, fucktard?
29
"I have no idea, nor am I the least bit concerned or interested." Give it up for the big man from NJ. Calculated or not...
30
May be, Christie find himself agreeing with Obama a lot. Isn't he pretty chummy with another New Dem (Booker)?
31
@28: If you need assistance for this election, then you are the fucktard.

However, to obtain ( I never calculate!) the days till the next presidential election, simply enter the following at the Windows PowerShell prompt (Windows 7 and later):
(via Start->All Programs->Accessories->Windows PowerShell)
new-timespan -start (get-date) -end 2016/11/01

get-date by itself always returns the current date so this command will keep everybody current for the next four years.
32
I'm really surprised that Christie has gone out to wave the flag for Obama as much as he has. Other than getting a historic natural disaster a week before Election Day, this has been the most unexpected turn of events, for me, this campaign season. I thought he had been unfairly criticized for his keynote convention speech, perhaps because it barely mentioned Romney, but he's always been such a loyal team player. I never thought he'd throw a pass to the guy on the other team towards the end of the game.
33
I think that Christie has a brain that's directly connected to his mouth. He sees something, he talks about it. He saw Obama being both Presidential and practical and he honestly liked it. He probably doesn't really like Romney; who could?
34
Well okay @18, I'll admit the Prez is quite probably milking it for all the political benefit it's worth---

BY DOING THE RIGHT FRIGGEN THING. Sorry for shouting, I'm not shouting at you. I'm just so glad that the President actually knows that helping the situation will also boost his re-election chances. Two rights make an even bigger right.
35
Romneybot 2.0 can stay silent until November 7th. If there was some way he could criticize President Obama re Hurricane Sandy, he would be all over it at campaigns and in ads.
36
“Well, ‘Don't Ask, Don't Tell’ is back - not for gays in the military. It's President Obama's new policy for questions about Libya. Don't ask, don't tell."
-Jay Leno
37
@36: My god, stop spamming the same tired shit on every single post. The only person more irrelevant to any national discussion than Jay Leno is you.
38
@31: the election won't be on the first in 2016. By statute, the election is held on the Tuesday after the first Monday in November.
39
Good Morning Charles,
It has been mentioned but the President has little or no choice but to suspend figuratively his campaign and concentrate on administering as President to the victims of superstorm Sandy:

http://seattletimes.com/html/nationworld…

Christie and yours truly commend the President and his administration's efforts concerning the recovery in the wake of Sandy. And, yes it may benefit the President politically. So be it.

But, I don't believe Romney is obligated to commend nor do I think Christie is eyeing 2016'. Romney can comment or not on Obama's performance or whether FEMA is necessary or not. However, at the end of the day Romney is a candidate for President not President as Obama is. So, he, Romney, has more leeway as to whether he should comment or not. It may cost him politically but we simply don't know for sure.

Right now ALL (Obama, Christie, Romney et al) must concentrate on rendering assistance in anyway we can to our brethren on the Eastern seaboard. I understand the moment has been politicized and I don't like it. But, politicized it is. We'll see who it benefits.
40
@31: The calculator in Windows 7 (I believe Vista as well, not sure about other versions) also has a built in function to calculate the time between two dates. It's under the View menu, or you hit Ctrl+E.
41
@38: OWNED.
@31: So...who's the fucktard now?
42
@17 I take it that you haven't seen the reports that the Red Cross didn't request Romney's canned goods, nor does it want them.
43
@31 sorry, did I hurt your little self-loathing fee-fees? Six days til the election...

Please wait...
