Eh...I'm not sure the Nation has anything near as clear and compelling a case as anyone would need to blow this up in Romney's face. They are speculating. And Aravosis is an egoist who only knows how to speculate.
Mittens drops commitments he has made in public, repeatedly for years, and in the strongest possible terms whenever a butterfly flaps it's wings - and these saps have a y faith in a pledge made in private, one that would require getting the House Republican Caucus to show they respect not only Gay people but also Government Regulation?
I want these people's phone numbers. I want to play them at poker, and to apprise them of my exciting bridge-based investment opportunities.
Yep, hell hath no fury like Log Cabin Republicans scorned. Why, they might do something really REALLY spiteful like taking one extra day before endorsing the republican candidate next election!
Yeah...I'm not sure Adler's account of Cooper's outburst exactly constitutes a smoking gun, here.
If the evangelicals who told me for the first three decades of my life that Mormonism is a cult can perform the mental gymnastics necessary to make voting for Romney OK, I don't think they are going to be phased by an insinuation that he made an under-the-table deal with the useful idiots in the LCR.
Yeah, this is just bizarre thinking. Let's stipulate that we can take Romney at his word.
Most likely, you still have a Republican majority in the House, heavily dominated by the tea party. And while most Democrats might be expected to line up behind ENDA, it's hard to think of many Republicans, beyond Ileana Ros-Lehtinen who'd be willing to stick their necks out and invite a tea party challenge in their next primary. In fact, it's hard to imagine John Boehner even bringing this up for a vote.
This absolutely makes no sense whatsoever, unless you're grasping at straws to find some excuse to justify endorsing Romney despite the party's horrible record on civil rights.
Democrat cohort J. Z. Knight (yep, Ramptha) goes on bigoted homophobic tirade caught on YouTube, yet Democrats continue (in video) to count her as ally and friend!!
Wow. I count as "many Americans" for once. I thought that it was already illegal to discriminate against gays and transfolk in employment. It probably is in a lot of states.
I hope there's proof that this promise was made. And I hope said proof makes the mainstream news. I would hope that conservatives would refrain from voting for Romney for being a liar rather than for promising to be fair to gays, but that would strain my hope muscles.
I'm not sure how LCR can say with str8 face that Rmoney didn't try to legislate against gay rights in MA. He did everything he could to stop gay marriage there. See: http://articles.latimes.com/2012/apr/29/…
Bailo, aside from the fact that the object of Knight's tirade is the Catholic Church (she's certainly not the first person to confuse pederasty with homosexuality), I don't see that her stated position is all that different from your typical racist, anti-semitic, anti-Catholic Southern Baptist Fundie - except that maybe she exhibits a bit more of that bat-shit crazy eye-twitch thing.
All I get from this spot is that there are some people in Thurston County who would prefer to supplant Knight's crazy-assed political influence with their own preferred brand of crazy-assed political influence; six of one, half dozen of the other, so far as I can tell...
If this is true, it's a good thing. It means that the act will be passed no matter who wins. But forgive me if I'm a little cynical about Mitt's sincerity.
I think the real story here is that Romney basically promised to allow cross-dressing men to pee in the sink in the ladies' room in front of the young daughters of Christian pastors. We should really let the Republican faith community know.
@7: Dude, you call something the "win of the year" or "win of the decade" about twice a day here on SLOG. Be honest and say "win of the few hours, unless I see something shiny".
How does this get "interesting"? Wouldn't 9/10 of the country either be favourably impressed with his tricking the LCRs or primarily inclined to blame the victims?
This seems like like almost the perfect Winking Point. Wink at the Religious Right and they'll know he doesn't mean it; wink at the ENDA-pushers when there's iffy evidence revealed of the deception and they'll know his pandering to the RR is all bluster; he gets to be all things to all people at the same and only risks losing those voters who refuse to vote for someone they absolutely know they can't trust and who can't be seduced by the I'm Really On YOUR Side Wink.
It's a little like seeing a misogynistic creep string along eight girlfriends, get exposed by somebody who sees through the malarkey, and then emerge unscathed as each of the deceived women unleashes all her fury on the others (including rampant use of the B word) and insists that SHE'S the one he really LOVES.
@28 for insightful herp of the derp. Llama llama llama llama llama llama duck. Two thumbs WAY up! WATASHI WA SHINEN, SHINENZZZZZZZZZUUUUUUUUUUUU
You said for me to post what I want, so I did.
"If Romney double-crossed LCR—if he warned Tony Perkins and Bryan Fischer in advance and told them to ignore the promise he was going to make to LCR because he had no intention of making good on it—this could get even more interesting."
No it won't. Those Sullivans love slurping up the bullshit.
I want these people's phone numbers. I want to play them at poker, and to apprise them of my exciting bridge-based investment opportunities.
Meanwhile, in the 21st Century, change is now.
...might be the best sentence written in this entire campaign.
Where's the popcorn? This could indeed get interesting.

Um, yeah, Democrats hang on her every word and prize her support above all others. Why, some Democrats are aware she exists!
Your point is an excellent counterbalance to the bigotry in the official platform and in the actual legislative track record of the Republican party.

But the US is obsessed with Israel and Iran.
You post what you want.
