Love it is a beautiful and nourishing thing.

We might be a happier and more productive species if we could remember that there is more than enough to go around.

That link isn't working for me. Any hints as to what this is about would be appreciated.

"She rowed her girlfriend out from under the bridge as friends secretly gathered overhead for "Operation Rainbow Umbrella." The girlfriend said "Yes" as Central Park visitors applauded and took photos from from the shore. Many more photos here. (Tipped by JMG reader Acacius.)"

Ordinary citizens and tourists witnessed two people commit to getting married and got caught up in the celebration. People being happy for each other. Simple and brilliantly beautiful.

Good god! The older I get the more sentimental I get. And MAN, am I a sucker for weddings. Its pathetic. Mostly because my marriage has been the single biggest source of joy in my life and I want everybody to have a chance to find that. It can only make the world a better place.

Now if you'll excuse me. I... I got something in my eye...

I love overly planned proposals. I get so giddy about the flash mobs and video games. I think it's my one mushy girl thing I have in me.
My favorites include....

Brian Brown will never have that kind of happiness in his life.

It's cheering to see so many people happy for a couple, but a public proposal is either exhibitionism in denial (if an affirmative response is beyond reasonable doubt) or the tactics of insecurity. I've always hoped that, had I ever been the recipient of such an occurrence, I'd have had the presence of mind to channel Diane Chambers.

I'd generally prefer open exhibitionism, but people think it's narcissistic and costume it as a proposal, which is rather worse, being so dishonest. Nor do I mind elaborate proposals (or overly planned as Ms Nerd puts it) if they're genuine.

And I salute Ms Kim for giving me the interesting topic for meditation of love as a commodity. If there is more than enough to go around, there is a great need for some redistribution.

Please wait...
