@10: From the articles it seems that the embassy attack was the last straw (or one of the last, anyway). The Fox News article mentions protest signs condemning the murder of the American ambassador. It seems to have been removed, but earlier this evening the Al Jazeera article contained a quote from a protester that expressed similar sentiment.

This doesn't mean that it's all about America, but it does show that at least in Libya, there are muslims who count America as a friend, which further validates Obama's decision to support their revolution.

At least Mudede isn't a Qaddafi supporter like most communists.

@I'd guess libyan's are expecting a lot of US money and/or scared shitless about getting bombed out over the murders. I'd also think in a few years they'll start piecing together/conjure from thin air the bits and pieces of what had happened and what exactly US did or didn't do. I'll join the chorus that objects to the assumption that this has much to do with the US. I don't think that president Obama as has much to do with it either. Maybe we can credit Ambassador Chris Stevens for being the great man he was and inspiring the Libyan people with the injustice of his death.

@5 - Under a Republican president (if John McCain was president) our Ambassador to Libya would have been take out of harms way on anniversaries of 9/11. President McCain would have heeded the warnings of such an attack.

President McCain would also attend White House daily security briefings, instead of just reading and executive summary. President McCain would want the insights and conversation that can only result from team meetings, where hard questions are asked and advisers can relate their opinions that are not included in an 'executive summary'.

President McCain, would know that Al Qaeda is on the move again, and would not play politics with the lives in the world for the sake of re-election by pretending that Benghazi wasn't a terrorist attack.

Finally a stranger reader with a clue.

Qaddafi's Libya was extremely anti-radical islam, women were equal and the Government was pretty secular for the region. I am not surprised to see the radical Muslim element that was supported by the NATO bombing campaign fall at the hands of the Libyan People.

I agree Charles. Maybe it's a breakthrough showing that there are moderate Muslims who can successfully oppose their radical brethren. Hope we see more of this in other Islamic countries.
