Charles, while it would arguably be awesome if "the U.S. ambassador to Libya stormed the compound of the Islamic extremist militia..." that really isn't what the article says.

It's "hundreds of protesters angry over last week's killing of the U.S. ambassador to Libya stormed the compound..." Less comic-book-y, but perhaps easier to believe.

Great news, and Fuck Yeah! For the Libyan people.
I'm amazed Fox News is even reporting this.
Something that doesn't villianize Muslims.
Must be chocking on every keystroke as they type.

.p.s you might wanna fix that typo in the opening sentence.
The U.S. Ambassador didn't storm the building

Good Evening Charles,
I just read that in the NY Times. Hmm?

I don't want anymore violence there. But, if these demonstrators pull off disarming these militias w/o bloodshed. That would be awesome.

However, it's not "Obama for the win".

It's Libya & America for the win. Good on them.
4
The State Department's "SEALs-to-Ambassador" retraining program is going well.
6
In answer to your question about how Faux Noize will spin this: Obviously, it proves that Obama is a Muslim. Because, you know, those people would NEVER rally to the cause of a True American.
7
Faux Noize - I like it. How about Faux Snooze? Can anyone else come up something? Like a children's game.
Or maybe we should do it with Willard, Mittens, Rmoney. Let''s pretend we are 8 yr olds in Syria or wherever and we're playing a word association game. It's fun, you just have to type.

Wince Pubis and Ornery Taints.

Only Amercicans can be so self-involved as to think this is about them. Oh wait, I guess many pea-brain muslims will also find some sort of 'CIA involvement' behind it. I guees I should slip in some qualifiers to modify the generalization.... But It's a freaking civil war. There's a lot more than 'they hate americans/they love americans' in there. Everyone just go read this article Cramer, C (forgot year) 'Civil war is not a stupid thing'... or this Cramer (2002) 'Homo economicus goes to war'.
11
@10: From the articles it seems that the embassy attack was the last straw (or one of the last, anyway). The Fox News article mentions protest signs condemning the murder of the American ambassador. It seems to have been removed, but earlier this evening the Al Jazeera article contained a quote from a protester that expressed similar sentiment.

This doesn't mean that it's all about America, but it does show that at least in Libya, there are muslims who count America as a friend, which further validates Obama's decision to support their revolution.
12
i doubt these words because they were written by charles mudede. . .
13
At least Mudede isn't a Qaddafi supporter like most communists.
14
Sigh. just read the articles. they're not about USA, they're about civil wars.

@I'd guess libyan's are expecting a lot of US money and/or scared shitless about getting bombed out over the murders. I'd also think in a few years they'll start piecing together/conjure from thin air the bits and pieces of what had happened and what exactly US did or didn't do. These are pure conjectures, but I base them on a lifelong experience of living outside america :) I don't mean offence, it's just a perspective thing.

Also @12, 13 this blogger is a socialist, not a communist, there's a difference you *@*#*s
15
They don't want to trade one tyranny for another, religious fanatic, tyranny. That's the real risk they face.
16
I'll join the chorus that objects to the assumption that this has much to do with the US. I don't think that president Obama as has much to do with it either. Maybe we can credit Ambassador Chris Stevens for being the great man he was and inspiring the Libyan people with the injustice of his death.

If this helps Obama win the election though, I won't complain.
17
As an aside, how does stuff like this keep surprising us? I'm pretty sure the CIA has a few people over there with some free time. That said, yay for the Libyan people
18
No impact on Obama's chances.
19
The U.S. gets what it pays for. Unacceptablly high price (Americas soul) I'd say
20
This also proves, against the Obama administration's initial spin, that the attack on our ambassador was a premeditated TERRORIST act by Al Qaeda and not the impromptu actions by Libyans over a video on YouTube.

@5 - Under a Republican president (if John McCain was president) our Ambassador to Libya would have been take out of harms way on anniversaries of 9/11. President McCain would have heeded the warnings of such an attack.

President McCain would also attend White House daily security briefings, instead of just reading and executive summary. President McCain would want the insights and conversation that can only result from team meetings, where hard questions are asked and advisers can relate their opinions that are not included in an 'executive summary'.

President McCain, would know that Al Qaeda is on the move again, and would not play politics with the lives in the world for the sake of re-election by pretending that Benghazi wasn't a terrorist attack.
21
@20, McCain chose (or was forced to accept) Sarah Palin as his running mate. That says all anyone needs to know about his putative executive abilities.
22
@20 Wow thats quite a fantasy world you live in.
23
@20 So you've given up on Romney and are now just fantasizing about McCain as president? Wait...give me a sec-

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAhaha. Ha.

Your tears, they taste so sweet.
25
when it's something bad - Morsi gets the egyptian presidency, the Libyan ambassador gets killed just after the egyptian embassy condemns the video, the GOP & Willard Mittens R-Money (that's for you, @7) blame Obama for apologizing for America.

when it's something good, then "Obama doesn't have much to do with this".

right. he loosed the Arab Spring in his Cairo speech, and he didn't allow the Arab Dictators to crush it. if he's going to get the blame for it, then he should get some the praise, too.
26
I literally have not had as good a chortle in days, as @20 gave me. Thanks for that. Keep pounding those talking points into a pulp, even if you do forget to mention Rmoney.
27
Just like with the protest that covered the original attack, I wonder how much of this protest was spontaneous and how much was staged. What a... convenient thing to have happen as the Senate debates cutting off foreign aid.
28
@27 Can you imagine pulling aid just as a new democracy is taking hold? Who but Teabaggers would do something so fucking stupid?
29
@20, There was no "spin," unless it came from the Corporate Media. The information about the Benghazi attacks being per-meditated came from the State Dept & intelligence sources. Which would, ultimately, be the responsibility of the White House. So you're completely wrong on your first point, and obviously don't know what you're talking about. (surprise? no.)

The rest of your post is nothing but wishful thinking, fantasy & make believe. I can do it too: if McCain had been elected, we'd all ride purple unicorns. McCain would have increased oil subsidies a thousand fold and thus gas would be 50 cents a gallon. See how easy that is? None of it has anything to do w/ anything.

Bottom line, you can argue about Obama's policies. You can't do that w/ GOP policies, because they're all based on fantasy. It's like listening to geeks argue over who's better, Batman or Spiderman. Nothing in the conversation has any practical application. It's all about emotional need & make-believe. Immigrants, welfare, social security, medicare, none of these things are "ruining" America. Banks who illegally manipulate & crash the economy w/o any fear of reprisal are ruining America. They can do that because they have one party wholly subservient to them, w/ enough left over to buy half of the other party.
30
@28... Ah -- corrupt it now, while the corrupting is cheap? Clever.
31
@30 And who in this world is not corrupted in one way or another? Our own government is the most corrupt in the world. But we all have to find a way to channel it to do some good. Human nature being what it is.
32
Are these the same al-Qaeda forces...oh, I mean "freedom fighters" the CIA brought in as a proxy ground force to destabilize and overthrow the Libyan government with a violent terror campaign while NATO was bombing the shit out of the country? Obama 2012, who even needs the rubber stamp of Congress to launch a war?
33
@32
Finally a stranger reader with a clue.

Qaddafi's Libya was extremely anti-radical islam, women were equal and the Government was pretty secular for the region. I am not surprised to see the radical Muslim element that was supported by the NATO bombing campaign fall at the hands of the Libyan People.

I wish them luck, they will need it.
34
@33: Spindles has a clue in the same way that a tailed frog has a tail. It might look like he does at first...but peer closer and it becomes apparent that he's just dicking around.
All you need to know about Spindles is that he fervently believes that vaccines give you autism. It's not a good sign to find yourself agreeing with him.
35
I agree Charles. Maybe it's a breakthrough showing that there are moderate Muslims who can successfully oppose their radical brethren. Hope we see more of this in other Islamic countries.
36
You know, Charles, this might be a lot easier to understand if you weren't starting from a position of "I spent some of my childhood in East Africa, therefore my personal opinions about the Middle East accurately reflect the Truth about societies therein, even though I have never lived there or even tried to learn any of their languages."

In other words, you are now a member of the colonialist diaspora, like it or not, regardless of your skin tone or zip code.
37
This is exactly what I've been hoping would happen for years now. The reasonable people need to say "just because you're technically on our side, doesn't make you acceptable." They need to stop the radicals from dominating the impression everyone has of them.

And it almost goes without saying that the Christians in this country would be good to follow this example.
38
What an enlightening story and comments! Great to see the tolerance.
