Is he hanging around a high school locker room again? Apparently Mittens isn't putting out
2
Yep, just stock language. Like women who have sex outside marriage are sluts, and women who need abortions for medical reasons are murderers. Y'know, stock language.

"We can't be held responsible for the language we use."

Actually, I thought he was adding in forcible to the term rape, saying that the word rape was stock language in that it could mean either statutory or forcible.

To some people, statutory is a loaded term because it can mean some skeezy 40 year old manipulating a 12 year old, or it could be a teenager getting it on consentually with an older person. Blah blah teenagers can't give consent, except to their peers?

Not saying I want to fuck teenagers, as that is the normal accusation that comes out (I prefer older types myself), but it's a different legal term. The bill is trying to limit government funding of abortions to only non-consentual rape. And, I think that some teenagers can consent to sex with older people. YMMV as this gives credence to the "well, she/he wanted it too" syndrome, but statutory rape is rather problematic in my eyes as it doesn't offer any form of consent to the teenager.

OTOH, what teenager can afford an abortion easily?

Nice subliminal messaging to get the middle aged women's vote, there. Put Abs Ryan in front of a scoreboard for cougars.

@4: But rape isn't limited to forcible or statutory. And saying it doesn't count as rape unless the survivor is underage or is being forced at knife or gunpoint is a very dangerous statement to make when it comes to legislation.

The same way cattle are breeding "stock".

Meanwhile, check out some male Democrat Huffpo comments about Anne Romney's miscarriage:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/08/28…

* Oh for Christ's sake! This woman has no shame and no limit on pandering.

* Pathetic. Grovelling for the sympathy vote. Although tragic, it is certainly not an uncommon occurance.

* And this matters why?

* This story just makes me dislike her even more.

Yep, there it is....in the abstract, the Democrat wants to be perceived as supporting women.

But when it comes to the individual pain and struggle of a woman...their disdain cannot be hidden.

10
What, some fifty million "hardworking taxpayer dollars" were used in a clearly futile attempt to deny millions of people healthcare by this dullard.
What fucking nerve these creeps have.
11
He needs to stop opening his stupid fucking mouth. Get Ann Romney back in front, she's slightly less offensive.

@9: Yeah, I see no false equivalency between comparing the vice presidential nominee's statements with anonymous comments made on a Huffington Post article.

Keep up the good work, John Bailo.

@9:

The difference being of course that the OTHER 4.4 million women who have miscarriages in the U.S. every year DON'T go on national television in a blatant, politically calculated effort to wrest sympathy from people who might be considering voting for their husbands for POTUS. See how that works, Bailo?

Before he starts talking: smug-face much?

@4,

You obviously are uninformed as to why pro-"lifers" are trying to distinguish between "forcible" rape and all other rape. It's not that they don't want statutory rape victims to get abortions paid by Medicaid; it's that they don't want ANY rape victim to get an abortion paid by Medicaid. Adding in "forcible" to legislation puts the burden of proof on the rape victim. She would have to somehow prove to the government that she's pregnant as the result of rape. Do you understand how impossible that would be? Short of getting a conviction beforehand, and, even if she knows who the rapist is, no rape trial takes less than nine months, there would be no way to prove a rape to the government's satisfaction.

Even with the existing rape exception for Medicaid covering abortions, it's extremely unusual for pregnant rape victims to take advantage of it, because it's already too difficult and painful to go through the process of getting an abortion approved under that exception. Even poor rape victims would rather save, borrow, or steal the money than to deal with that shit.

And I want to reiterate that this has always been the end game of the pro-"life" movement. Every once in a while, the motherfuckers let it slip what they actually mean to do (which is why Republicans are tearing Akin to shreds), but the long, ignoble history of that movement bears this out. Any woman who was raped in any situation other than being dragged into the bushes and raped by a stranger is a slut who had it coming, and pro-"lifers" would force her to carry the baby to term.

What we're seeing here is the political expression of a religious philosophy that reduces a woman to merely a vessel for teh babiez:

"For anti-choicers, the fact that someone can make a baby means that making babies is what she is for. People mistake the term “objectification” to mean “looking at with lust,” but what it actually means is “reducing someone to an object to be used.” Sexual objectification is assuming that because women turn you on, they are for sex, instead of a person whose sexuality should be an expression of their agency. What anti-choicers engage in is reproductive objectification. Women are among an array of objects to be used. The refrigerator is for storing food. The bookshelf is for holding books. The woman is for making babies. You no more give her a choice in the matter than you would give your refrigerator veto power over what food it hold because it didn’t like your method of shopping."

Saying is "Paul Ryan is a bleeding rectal cyst" is also just stock language.

Huckabee's interview with Akin is instructive, because Huckabee revealed where it all ends: with no exceptions whatsoever. Huckabee was at pains to mention famous people who were products of rape. This is what it comes down to: the woman is for producing humans. Whether that human gets into her through consensual sex or rape is irrelevant. Once it's in there, she has no agency in the matter of carrying it to term. The Republicans are the best friends a rapist ever had.
