Except that cats CAN be trained to obey.
2
@ 1, but it isn't really in their nature. You have to start when they're kittens. Dogs, OTOH...
3
And we anarchists don't lick their own assholes... Or on the other hand considering the differences between French and Scandinavian anarchism perhaps they do over there.
(I hate that about ideological lump-terms. Like liberal that means right wing here (neoconservative but social liberal). Anarchist that can mean some wierd hippie living in a tent in the US (appearently) and means a left-communist or council communist or liberterian socialist (basicly) here)

Cats bring on chaos.

Yep.
5
All I know is cats crap and then bury it. Anarchists crap all over the place.
6
Cats, like anarchists and libertarians, being oblivious to their privilege, are for the most part selfish assholes. Despite having the very means of their sustenance provided by 'the authorities', they lash out at them when asked to very minimal things like 'play baby' or not trash downtown.
7
cats are jerks
8
Cats rule. You just don't understand them if you don't agree.
9
This metaphor has reached its limits.

But Anglo-Saxons still have a lot to learn about anarchism, swayed as they easily are by teevee images.
10
I love cats, but have to agree with giffy@6.

If Henri Cartier-Bresson were alive today, he'd have a website called "Catarchy" which would have a new crazy cat "meme" image every day.

But instead of Cheeseburger, his photos would be in high definition black and white.

12
I’ve personally always thought cats were objectivists.
13
Being mildly autistic, cats are the only creatures that I can reliably successfully befriend. So I say that all cats have Asperger's Syndrome.
14
We keep our cat food bowls inside. There happened to be an empty bowl sitting on our front porch. Our Girl Cat would sit in front of that empty bowl and meow for food, while her food bowl was inside filled with food.
15
cats suck. dogs rule. except for rat dogs (tiny chihauhaus, etc., that bark incessantly. I live in nyc and there are many). those suck too.
16
um, actually lions, tigers, panthers, lynxes have well defined territorial boundaries, norms for setting hierarchies, and clear rules about feeding the kids. housecats do too, most of them don't walk on the kitchen table or shit in your bed.

typical romanticism, just not factual, it speaks more to the human yearning for freedom which usually is mistakenly taken to mean "no rules, no authority woo hoo!" putting many pseudo leftists on a par with lord of the flies or the typical party boat crew on lake havasu on spring break.

iow grow up, and yes, you have to organize and join parties and stuff and get social democracy a la norway and germany, the anarchist stuff just don't work folks. who's going to make sure the chinese are not dumping products or breaking enviro stds., by the way, one billion chinese acting through finger talk and without an institution to enforce rules?

On the anarchist spectrum from individualism to communitarianism, cats are at the individualist end (i.e. the selfish do what thou wilt end).

Cats don't organise non hieararchical soup kitchen coops. But they would go in and take the food. They might put on the charm and pretend, but then they'd just take and leave.

i.e., what @6 said.
18
Cats are autistic.
19
Cats are actually thrilled with order as long as they are the ones imposing it. We have a constantly replenished water bowl at the cats' feeding area. One cat feels joining the others is beneath him and insists on his water glass on a night table.

I'm an anarchist, and I love both cats and dogs. Why do so many illustrate so little understanding of anarchy as a philosophy? Yes, there is a continuum, as with any other philosophy, but come on! Read Emma Goldman's "Anarchy: What It Really Stands For," please. Please.

"Cats are good. They're half in, half out." - Constantine (referring to cats being able to cross over from earth to hell)
22
ANARCATS!!!
23
@4,

That was hilarious! Love the look of satisfaction on the kitty's face.

This is indeed interesting in light of our contemporary understanding of dog and cat behavior.

We consider dogs the more "social" of the two species due to their far greater responsiveness to human gestures and vocalizations. This is sometimes regarded as superior "intelligence," which is of course dangerously wrong; what dogs exhibit relative to cats is merely superior empathy.

Thus by Cartier-Bresson's analogy, "anglo-saxons" (by which we will charitably assume he only meant non-anarchists) must learn to be less attuned to the expressive behaviors of the people around them.

http://www.buzzfeed.com/expresident/reas… Oh, roboslave, here we are again at the tail end of a lighthearted give and take about anarchy and you have to pull the antisocial card regarding anarchists. What happened to you? one of you ex's tied you up with a black flag once? Got shot down by a sexy young thing in a tight red and black tshirt? Thrown out of Left Bank books for shoplifting?
Black cats and anarchy have been associated for years, going back to the IWW and beyond, I'm not sure of the connection either except that some anarchists seem to remain tantalizingly out of reach from organized activity, just like my cats, kind of why I like them so much. I guess it must have the opposite effect for RS and RNC planners in Florida, oh well, can't please everyone....
27
Who said I wasn't being lighthearted?

You're not taking this banter personally, are you pdonahue?

Please wait...
