I don't know why "fair" and "poor" are always lumped together. They seem to me the exact opposite.
2
I couldn't agree more with his (her?) holiness. I would love to find out just how many people would rate this decision "piss poor."
3
Also how many Dems rated this choice as "excellent" because it puts the final nails in the Romney Campaign's Coffin?
4
Somebody pass the popcorn.

they'll all change their minds after he dazzles them with bullshit at the convention.

except for the dick cheney wing of the GOP, who are probably appalled that willard picked a tea party house budget wonk instead of someone who knows how american power really works. biden knows how american power works.

Charles P. Pierce at Esquire who, way back when the Ryan extreme couponing plan came out, aptly gave Ryan the moniker Zombie-eyed granny-starver has more about the Veep backlash and the non-existent state of the Republican establishment...

Poltico says the best case scenario for a Romney win is building a case on cold, hard wonky numbers and arguments. Just don't see how talking folks into slashing their own support in the middle of this depression is going to get much legs.

For the sake of reference, it took a couple weeks after her rollout before Republicans started eating Sarah Palin alive.

I understand why you used this comparison, but it really doesn't fit. No one knew who the fuck Palin was when McCain picked her. It took a while to get past the shock of such a horrible choice. We have all heard about Ryan, it wasn't a surprise, and there isn't a lot to get excited about.

One thing that's pissed me off about the coverage of the Ryan pick is the willingness of the media to use the "premium support" euphemism in straight news stories about his Medicare voucher proposal.

Sometimes I think that if Frank Luntz said liver and onions was peppermint ice cream, the MSM wouldn't hesitate to serve it for dessert.

@10, Tim won't let them do that. He wants to be a player in Washington State politics and you can't do that if your paper pisses off the establishment.

And are you the same Sgt Doom who writes into Mike Malloy's show?

Now is as good a time as any to remind ourselves who decides most presidential elections in this country: low information voters in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Florida, and Missouri.
13
@12 - Low info voting is cool. Like Samuel Jackson, I'm voting for Obama because he's black .

And then there's his health care plan, what's he thinking?

According to a summary on Ryan’s Web site, the bills would implement three new programs to make insurance more affordable:

Premium deductibility. An individual who purchases a high-deductible health plan (HDHP) combined with a health savings account (HSA) and does not receive health insurance through an employer or government program would be allowed to deduct from his or her taxable income the amount of the premium.

Small business tax credit. Small businesses of up to 100 employees would receive a refundable tax credit for contributions they make to their employees’ health savings accounts (up to $200 for a contribution into an individual HSA or $500 for a family HSA). In order to be eligible for the credit, the employer must offer a group high-deductible health plan.

Low-income tax credit for the purchase of health insurance. In order to help low-income people get coverage, the legislation provides a subsidy of up to 90 percent of the cost of their health insurance premiums--up to $1,000 for an individual or $3,000 for a family plan. The credit would be refundable, advanceable, and assignable, meaning the money could go directly to the insurer chosen by the low-income insured.

According to Ryan, “This legislation is a way to get the consumer back in the game and gives incentive to shop around. Forty percent of those purchasing HSAs did not have insurance before. This legislation will help expand insurance to the uninsured.”

Too bad Romney is doing everything he can to avoid talking about the specifics of his policies.

@14,

Is that $1,000 per *year*? Ryan is on crack if he thinks that would pay for jack shit.
17
I think it is excellent that the House voted on the Ryan budget before going into recess. Now that people will have to pay attention to what the hell the "Ryan Budget" really is, it will be a great campaign point for Dems running against incumbent Republicans.
18
The hardest question Ryan wont be able to answer is how signed off on a massive tax break back in 2001 2003 instead of trying to balance the budget that Clinton and Gore had already set in motion with the projected surplus. Instead, he pissed it all away on tax cuts, only to claim "OMG WE NEED TO BALANCE THE BUDGET!!!!" 11-12 years later.

@10: i wasn't aware that senator cantwell was a candidate for vice president. good to know.

The Democrats were successful in demonizing Sarah Palin before she ever left the starting gate. She was an unknown who Republicans thought could slow sell to the American people and would gain in popularity, but the first strike did her in. She was a "hot" personality (in McLuhan's terms) with a lot of forcefulness and that lent to the ease with which she was labelled. Based on the barrage of articles in the coastal media today, I think they are scrambling to do the same with Ryan. Won't work. Ryan is a "cool" personality like Romney where it's difficult to label and more likely people will see something of themselves in the duo.
21
Demonizing Sarah Palin was her own doing. Republicans never take responsibility for anything because everything they do is fucked up. Then they complain when the Dems don't clean up the mess fast enough.
22
@20 HAHAHAHA "people will see something of themselves in the duo."

Really? Do you honestly believe that? Romney is completely robotic and unlikable, it's something they've had to deal with his entire campaign. Ryan's addition has done nothing to change this besides add another wealthy white man to the campaign. The more Romney loosens up while Ryan is around, there more it shows that Romney clearly isn't comfortable unless he's around his own people (rich white dudes), which at first makes him appear more human until you realize this actually just enhances the divide, rather than closes it.

Please wait...
