Re Image Comics these days...basically, I pick up any issue #1 from Image that I see. I am rarely disappointed, and I often end up adding titles to my monthly list.

Agreed on the DRM stuff. I hate that.

Camille Paglia had this whole thing about how Marquis DeSade wanted to explore every possible permutation of sexual and moral depravity. Like combining incest, rape, adultery, and murder into a single act. Or having every possible kind of sex between every person, in every permutation of partners, in a group.

Comic books are like that. They're obsessed with exploring every node on the graph, every possible event within the space they've created. Which sounds exciting, but turns out to be as boring as putting a dot in every box on ever sheet of a ream of graph paper.

I bought more comics last week at once than I have since the late 90s. Image with Brubaker (the Fatale collection came out); Hernandez and Bagge doing work for Dark Horse; the new Rabliagati (Song Of Roland is one of the best graphic novels of the year); new Eddie Campbell; killer stuff from Fanta; etc. It feels like the alternative boom years all over again, and it's really exciting that the mainstream is so involved, Paul. Now I guess I have to check out these digital comics, huh?

Please wait...
