Love how they reverse 'investment' and 'state spending' (along with the long-proved bogus $10 billion number).

Always fun watching this mouthpiece for the SEIU trying to use grown up language, and failing.

Now run along, you'll never win the tax issue in Washington State, the people have spoken loudly and clearly, many times. They neither want nor need your nanny state.

If the Legislature weren't so cowardly, both chambers would pass a resolution saying that, as a matter of procedure, the word "majority" in the state Constitution would be interpreted as meaning "simple majority." According to the state Supreme Court's ruling in Brown v. Owen, given in 2008 about Eyman's I-960, the Court would refuse to interfere with this.

Yeah, I ain't holding my breath that Chopp or Owen will grow a backbone any time soon either.

"the Legislature weren't so cowardly"

By that, you mean that they understand what the people of Washington State want as expressed repeatedly at the ballot box? Why do you hate democracy?

Have we really been living a well-controlled experiment so that we can make causal inference re I-1053? Interesting. I was under the impression that other stuff was going on in the world almost simultaneously.

Boo.Fucking.Hoo.......

Taxes and tax-breaks should only get a 4 - 8 year lifespan, the legislatures should have stand up and vote yes or no, repeatedly, instead of coasting along with the ability to say "my hands are tied, it's already written into law". Special interests would have to also win over the public who votes these people in every two years, rather than just buying off a few candidates once and getting their tax-code of choice for life.

7
Heh, then we just need go get voter participation up

The real problem is Gregoire grew a government 5 times the growth of population.

Now someone has to pay them.

And they want that someone to be you.

9
@8 By 'they' do you mean SEIU mafia goons?
10
More investment for more overpriced SUV hybrids!!!

-- starve the beast

"Taxes and tax-breaks should only get a 4 - 8 year lifespan"

Unlike nanny state welfare programs which only grow and grow and grow and never seem to die.

hey sugartit:

the ballot box that counts is the one in which the people approved the state constitution.

yes, constitutions sometimes tell a majority of people they can't do something, in this case, you can't amend it contrary to the provisions for that in the constitution.

you say a majority voted for 1/3 minority rule. so what stops a majority from voting that there should be 4/5 vote for any laws, or in fact, unanimity? your refusal to answer indicates the utter stupidity of your position, legally.

morally you're a power hungry junta enabler, as your position amounts to an illegal takeover of the state by the minority blocking anylaw that could be passed with 51%. somehow you trumpet the ballot box as supporting your junta. doesn't matter. hitler got a plurality, doesn't make what he did legal or right.

once you abandon the constitution there's no law at all, and yes, the democrats who every year refuse to IGNORE AND DISOBEY this blatantly illegal junta law passed by an illegal junta are total cowards who should each resign in shame.

@12 Hitler?

Nice one!

"This is a victory, let's all celebrate it."

It's a victory when it's upheld. It's a victory when Olympia politicians think they can vote against the interests and beliefs of the majority of the state (unlikely outside of Cap Hill). It's a victory when you can pass taxes that punish higher income earners.

In other words, you're confusing your mental masturbation with actual sex.

@6 for the win.

Tim E for the whine. Move to Idaho already, Tim baby.

@ 15 - Perhaps Sugartit can join him.

Please wait...
