I thought this was a gift to Dems first too, but then I thought about how this fits into the Republican narrative. We can assume that he will not have to defend his book against any but the most obsequious Fox interviewer. Plus, the natural deference the press gives any ex-pres will work in his favor. The Repubs have been saying since the day Obama took office that all of our economic problems were caused by him. Now they will be whitewashing history right before our eyes and during the book tour touting Bush as an economic genius. Then the narrative will be: "Bush is an economic genius! He even wrote a book about it! And everyone [on Fox] said it was brilliant! See, all of our problems happened after he left office."

@1:
obsequious [uhb-see-kwee-uhs]
sycophantic, flattering.

You may be right about the rest of the press showing natural deference, however. They do have to try to remain objective, and when you're talking to George W Bush, that means letting him spout any number of outright lies while trying to find a polite way to call him on it before he shoots off another one or runs out the clock.

That said, I hope he grows some balls and finally does an interview with Jon Stewart in an attempt to promote his (no doubt ghostwritten) book. Sadly, The Daily Show seems to be the only "news" program daring enough to actually nail anyone these days.

Lots more, Dr. A, all through that election year and up until just before Inauguration Day for Obama. In chronological order:

Things were well and truly fucked long before Election Day. The one based on Théodore Géricault's The Raft of the Medusa is dated November 3rd, 2008.

Please wait...

and remember to be decent to everyone
all of the time.
