When Amazon does more to make us proud to have them, then I'll do more to give them hometowny support.
2
Fresno is at the bottom of every list, by definition.

@1 for the Give Back Or Else, Amazon! win

I don't think people in Las Vegas have a commitment to reading books in general.
5
I worked at in involuntary psych unit in Fresno for 4 years. It is a living hell, Seattlelites don't know how well they have it.
6
@5 Perhaps, for all of our kvetching, we do. After all, we're not in Fresno.
7
We have good libraries and bookstores, we have too much to do to spend much of our time reading, and we all have smart phones. I'll never buy a reader. I love reading on my iPhone, and it's always with me.

Note that Lexington KY is also the home of a major Amazon distribution center...

Basic economics.

The reason most "Major metropolitan cities" aren't high on their ranking is that most big cities have significant poor and minority neighborhoods, few of whom are going to be Kindle customers.
10
@9, yah, there sure are no poor or minority neighborhoods in Lexington, KY (twice the poverty rate of Seattle).

I take my Kindle e-Ink $79 reader with me everywhere around Puget Sound.

Universally:

1) I am the only one doing so in any venue I attend.

2) People stare at me.

3) One person asked me why I had such a "huge cell phone, mister".

4) One very nice person at Ristrettos talked to me at length about it and said she was a voracious reader. She did not own one, but thought she might.

By the way, other than in Starbucks there are also lots of places that I take my netbook where there is Wifi...and yet, I often see no other people doing so!

They're really crappy devices. I prefer my phone, which also plays playstation games. When you can get playstation on a Kindle I'll look impressed before laughing at you for buying such a locked down product.

Please wait...
