Not only is Eli Sanders a cheerleader and waterboy for Jay Inslee, ...
2
Oh no, McKenna just lost the hard left Seattle transitista vote!

Oh wait...,
3
Well that's much better than being a troll for McKennna - who in turn is a fluffer for an elderly shopping center owner.

4
If there are nominations for a nickname to replace "Fairview Fanny," might I suggest "the Denny Damnitall"? Their editorial policy certainly seems to have become little more than "You damn kids! Get off my lawn!"
5
I am surprised and pleased with The Times for the first time in a long time.

Re: Obamacare

Yeah, this will be interesting. I'm actually mostly in favor of it. But let's get real for a minute hereh How many people here would be on-board with tHe government telling you that you had to buy a pound of Brussells sprouts a week?
7
Let's get real for another minute. Brussel Sprouts aren't the same thing as health insurance.
8
Well, now this should be interesting.
When Romney wins the nomination, either Santorum tells his voters to support Obama (helping us), or he has to messily walk back his statement (making an idiot of himself in public and thus helping us). It's a real win-win.
9
@6: Better analogy would be that the government requires you to buy carbon footprint monitoring devices.
10
@8 Santorum supporters will not vote for a Mormon in any case.
11
The police chief is stepping down temporarily. For all we know, this will become permanent, but it's not an outright resignation by any means.
12
@10 - That's absurd. Maybe a few will not vote for a Mormon, but the vast majority of Republicans, evangelicals, conservatives, libertarians, and a number of independents are desperate to get rid of Obama. Also, polls that ask if it's more important to have a true conservative or replace Obama consistently show that the latter wins every time.
13
Aw, @6 and 9, look at you two, making friends over strained analogies, how sweet. I predict a furtive handjob in someone's future.
14
@8

Do you really think Santorum's supporters are going to be turned off if their candidate doesn't display a sufficiently consistent ideology?
15

13 year old witness to Trayvon Martin saying, who arrived shortly afterward on scene, wonders what-if he had been there first?!

George Zimmerman is a serial killer who used his crime watch to execute a teen.

I dub him the SS Killer -- Stalk, Shoot.

George Zimmerman, the SS Killer.
16
@8 As someone pointed out somewhere sometime recently, most voters don't remember spring politics in November. We'll enjoy a few snarky threads on blogs like this, some wingnuts will gnash their teeth on the less rigidly policed reichtard sites and the Onion *might* find space for it, but even Stewart/Colbert and Maddow are less then even odds to take note of it. I expect the rest of the media to be a memory hole like Cygnus X-1.

Light rail.

Just from a bird's eye view, seems to me that putting a heavy, long train on a floating bridge with a lot of swaying, shimmying pieces is a really bad idea....engineering, not political, -wise.
18
@17: Then let's put it at the bottom of the water, like BART.
19
@12 Hey, it's your pal Santorum that said re-electing Obama was better than Romney, not me. So....who's absurd?
20
ALSO:

Happy The #WireQuoteDay on Twitter!

Very important indeed because "a man's gotta have a code."
21
Jesus! When they opposed the monorail, they said it was because having and integrated light rail system was better. We try and make an integrated light rail system and they oppose that! And want to have 4 votes on it so it can go down in flames on the fourth! These mother fuuuuucckkkkkeerrrrrrrrrrrrsssssssssssss!!!!!
22
@19: I didn't say you're absurd, I said that's absurd.
23
Supreme Leader is right. Trying to run light rail across a bridge is like trying to dam the Columbia or build a railroad tunnel under Seattle. It would probably never work, so let's not even try.
24
Crazy talk. Just imagine the havoc of trying to run cars, trucks, and buses across a shimmying floating bridge.

Chaos!
25
You can't have too much asshole. Just keep it clean.
26
@6,7, etc...

It's more like: Some people take Brussels Sprouts but don't have the money to pay for them. The store is required to let them keep the Brussels sprouts, so they make all the regular buyers of Brussels Sprouts pay for it. As a result, the cost of Brussels Sprouts skyrockets. Finally, someone steps in and says, "you know what, we're just going to make EVERYONE chip in for Brussels Sprouts whether you eat them or not." The cost of Brussels Sprouts goes way down and people go on to complain about something else.

By the way, I love Brussels Sprouts. They're one of my favorite vegetables.

No, it's more like this:

28
It's called light rail, because the trains are lighter and much smaller than a standard train. Right now, they run 3 cars, which takes about as much space as two bendy-buses. But SROTU, you don't seem to know anything about trains, buses, Seattle, etc.
Being forced to 'buy' healthcare is a lot like being forced to 'buy' roads, power, public education. You're contributing to an infrastructure not buying a product. It's super easy to compare it, but we already have a saying about apples and oranges, but this is more like apples to glycol systems.
Phoebe, why do you always play this game? You use a loaded word in a comment then get upset when someone else uses the same language in a reply. Stop it, it's making your whininess show. I agree with you though, only a few Santorum voters will sit out the election.
29
@27, just stop. It's nothing like that. Do you want to use a clip of the Challenger when talking about an airplane?
30
@28, 'absurd' is a loaded word? Rather tame by Slog standards, I'd say. But you're right, 'I disagree' would have been of higher decorum.
31
"a new study shows that the cost of health insurance for a typical family will be equal to the median family income by 2037, if current trends continue.[..]

The vast majority of people in the United States will soon be unable to afford health care if nothing is done to contain costs. This is the second most predictable crisis in history, after the housing bubble, and almost no one is talking about it."

32
If Bailo and Phoebe were the only two engineers in the world, everything would still be made out of mud and leaves. Hmm, actually mud-and-leaves technology can be pretty impressive; everything would still BE just mud and leaves.

Here's a tip: the people who know how to build transit systems don't think that bucking, swaying, whinnying, saddle-throwing travesty of a bridge you're so worried about is a problem. Maybe you should listen to them.
33
@32 in such a world WiS would be king philosopher and all discourse would be replaced by random YouTube clip and of course mud everywhere.
34
That Kennedy ad against Romney is priceless. I hope it gets a remake and new life.
35
Oh Supreme Ruler, how I do love you......Yes, you're right: it would be EXACTLY like that - right down to the cars and the clothes.

But footage of the 1988-ish sinking of the older version of the bridge we are actually talking about might have been jollier.

Just a thought, dear heart....
36
@32: Fnarf, I merely entertained an idea. No, I am not an engineer, nor have I ever pretended to be one. Sloggers often comment on subjects even though they are novices to the specific discipline under discussion. I am no different.
37
@36: You weren't terribly entertaining.

Please wait...
