Unfortunately for Ms. Palin, most people see the difference between calling someone a MILF (rude, but blatantly has more to do with the speaker than the subject) and calling someone a slut (a blatant judgment against the subject with no reference to it as the speaker's opinion).
I do have sympathy for Mrs. Palin though. If my c**t was made a joke of in the popular media by Bill Maher, I'd be upset about it for the rest of my life.
Who the hell is this Sarah Palin character and why do people keep talking about her as if anything she says has anything to do with anything anyone cares about?
Sarah Palin kind of has a point here, not about the donation but with the way she is described. Calling her a MILF is degrading and objectifying her and similar to calling Fluke a slut. Both of those things should not be allowed.
@8: I do not like Sarah Palin. She drives me batty. Her voice is like fingernails across a chalkboard. Nevertheless, that doesn't negate my previous comment. People can have negative opinions about someone but still have empathy for their travails; or is such a concept foreign to you?
"Wealthy old white dude flying through the Grand Canyon. How much money do you think he spent for/on that jet?"
Looks like plenty hiring all those people to design, build and transport it then hire pilots, film makers, editors to produce the film. But better he just give cash to baby mamas, right? After all, the welfare state has been such a rip-roaring success.
Hey, whatever happened to all that money Palin was collecting prior to announcing that she isn't actually running this year? Did that all go to her vacation?
@ 11, when it fits in perfectly with a very apparent campaign to distract from Rush Limbaugh's problems, then the likelihood that you're simply stating your truthful opinion goes WAY down.
If you're not working for anyone, you can simply say so.
@ 10, there is no fair way to compare Maher to Limbaugh. They don't do the same job, they don't have audiences of comparable size or demographics, and only one is held to be a representative of his part of the political spectrum.
Palin has absolutely no valid point to make; she's simply doing her part to try to deflect the negative attention away from Limbaugh.
Calling somebody a MILF is not an insult by any stretch. It's Moms I'd Like to Fuck. How is that insulting? It's a compliment. Although saying you'd like to fuck Palin puts your taste into question.
OMG! Obama is accepting dirty money because Maher made a joke about me! Feel sorry for me everybody! I'm a victim!!!
Jesus. Maher is a comedian. He makes jokes, sometimes rude and crude, about politicians, etc. Limbaugh claims to be a serious journalist who attacked and woman viciously because he disagreed with her opinion about women's health issues. Not the same thing.
@15: Yes, I'll admit it. Karl Rove pays me $10,000 for each post, $5000 for each retort ($7500 if its from Matt from Denver). I was working for Soros, but Rove made me a better offer. I'm known in some circles as the mercenary mistress of punditry.
@10, no, she doesn't have a point. MILF is shorthand for an "older" woman you find attractive. Crude, perhaps, but not an insult. It's a passive statement about the *speaker's* desire or intent. (This is killing me. Explaining shit like this dries up all the fun) Calling someone a slut or prostitute, on the other hand, is intended to be an insult. It's an active statement about the actions of the target.
Someone should tell Mrs. Palin that one of the lovely outcomes of Citizens United is the growth of Super PACs like the one to which Maher donated, BUT the candidate for whom the PAC seeks to provide benefit can not coordinate with said PAC, meaning that Obama can not legally direct the Maher donation to be returned. But then I suspect that Mrs. Palin doesn't really care to understand such nuance.
@21
Those who recently donated to Northwest Harvest were bestowed upon them this lofty title.
Furious and furiouser, cried Sarah. She was so much surprised, that for the moment she quite forgot how to speak good English. "Also, now Iām opening out like the largest telescope that ever was, too! Good-bye, feet!" (for when she looked down at her feet they seemed to be almost out of sight, they were getting so far off).
We donated some money to a charity a few months back.
As to the whole "Palin = MILF" kerfuffle, if you could magically get all the males who voted McCain-Palin in 2008 to be brutally honest for five seconds, I wouldn't be in the least bit surprised to find out that a goodly percentage of them did so only because they thought she was totally hot.
The GOP cynically exploited Palin's physical attractiveness to male voters during the campaign (anyone who has the temerity to claim she was put on the ticket because of her articulateness and depth-of-knowledge on the issues gets an automatic karate-chop to the larynx); hell, GOP flacks like Will Wilkinson of The Cato Institute could barely keep their hands out of their pants while fantasizing about her "Paglian chthonic sexual power". If you don't recall much in the way of hand-wringing over that sort of over-arched phrasing at the time from the Right, well, guess why not.
But now that Maher has done stepped in and uttered aloud what many of them have been thinking all along, suddenly it's an issue. Seriously, is there any person with more than a dozen brain-cells to rub together who DOESN'T see that they're (once again) cynically exploiting her as a means of deflecting some of the greatly-deserved criticism away from their favorite media lap-dog?
@21: You're right, blatant sarcasm <> denial.
So, let me state then that all my comments be they arrogant, condescending, or otherwise enlightening and profound are exclusively my own sans any revenue stream whatsoever. I know this won't satisfy some, so I suggest having a refreshing cool and crisp dill pickle - works for me every time.
However, before she started her Senatorial campaign, I thought that Ms. Warren would make a really swell VP, since apparently she can't head up the Consumer Financial Progection Bureau...
@27 It's pretty much sealed already, if the GOP picks Romney. Biden is a fairly neutral factor. Anyone else is going to attract controversy, real or manufactured. What's the worst anyone can say about Biden? He's an old white guy who says stupid things sometimes? Duh. So what? There's really nothing there that Fox Snooze can get their rabid hooks into. I cringe even thinking about how they're going to lay into a Democratic woman, no matter who she is.
@ 26, actually, I'm completely satisfied. Paid staffers can NEVER deny that they're working for someone, because that's risking being caught in a lie if they're exposed.
So, we're back to the alternative explanation - that you're a tool.
So it's fine when it is to Palin's advantage. But when it is not, then it is not fine.
And the POINT being that Limbaugh speaks for the Republicans. Which is why the candidates were not able to condemn his comments. Which he spent THREE DAYS one.
But getting a "Liberal" to condemn Bill Maher? Hey, Maher! You're an idiot for focusing on physical appearance. Stuff the MILF comments.
See? No one cares what Bill Maher says.
Can Romney do that with regards to Limbaugh's comments? No. He cannot.
So Palin can stop crying about how unfair it is that someone said something she liked hearing before.
Dicks makes a good burger, but I wouldn't call it life changing. Now Zippy's in White Center with its large tasty broiled crust burger, one could make a life changing argument.
Liberal Comedian [and SLOG favorite] Louis CK Withdraws from Media Dinner After Van Susteren Calls Attention to His Sexism
Here is a sample of what he said about Governor Sarah Palin and you tell me whether any member of the media should sit in the crowd while he speaks to them:
Louis C.K. says of Palin: āher f*** retard making c***ā and āthe baby that just came out of her f**** disgusting c***.ā
Wow...wasn't it a few weeks ago that SLOG was raving over this "comedian" and boasting his sales and promoting his CD?

A Misogyny Double Standard?: Louis C.K. and the Correspondentsā Dinner
Whatever the case, Iāve observed anecdotally men who act as if their progressive street creds have earned them a free pass to talk like misogynists when the mood strikes themāas if a feminist sensibility of not trashing people on account of their sex wasnāt a core part of our values. There are self-policing exceptions. Ralph Nader has called out sexism among the liberal ranks, but much of the swagger goes uncriticized.
@42
You left out Andrew Dice Clay from years ago.
There are "comedians" who make their show about whatever.
But the "Liberals" have no problem condemning such statements.
Did Romney condemn Limbaugh's statements? No.
Did the pundits on Fox News condemn Limbaugh's statements? No.
In fact, they repeated the errors he stated.
That is the issue.
The leader of the Republican media spent THREE DAYS calling a woman a "slut" and a "prostitute" and so on AND THE REPUBLICAN CANDIDATES (except Ron Paul) COULD NOT CONDEMN THOSE STATEMENTS.
@44
"I think Social Conservatives are a huge albatross around the neck of the Republican Party."
Those people ARE the Republican Party.
Which is why none of the candidates (except Ron Paul) could condemn Limbaugh's THREE DAY rant about how Fluke is a "slut" and a "prostitute".
And now the errors he stated are being repeated as facts over on Fox News by their pundits.
Also, go Inslee! Glad he's decided to take his campaign to the next level.
BTW, who are you working for? Anyone spreading that Maher meme is on some payroll. (If they're smart, that is - anyone doing this gratis is a tool.)
Looks like plenty hiring all those people to design, build and transport it then hire pilots, film makers, editors to produce the film. But better he just give cash to baby mamas, right? After all, the welfare state has been such a rip-roaring success.
