National Organization FOR Marriage? Yeah, right.
2
I'm with #1, what the fuck is a organization that is trying to prohibit marriage doing calling themselves "for" marriage.

Well, I know where I'm spending my donations...To the opposition! I hate haters. I hate hate. I love love.

Hey hey, ho ho, if you're a bro and you wanna marry a bro, in my book it's a go!!!

sorry.
3
I say, bring it on. Let's bankrupt the fuckers.
4
NOM also forgot the rest of the story. In Iowa, when given a choice to pick an anti-gay candidate that would have handed the State Senate to the Republicans who are itching for a constitutional amendment, they chose the progressive, pro equality candidate instead. NOM is all smoke and mirrors. Nothing they say should ever be reported as fact.

That said, they will spend millions spreading their lies in Washington, so we will have to compete in kind. I just donated to Washington United for Marriage. So should you http://www.washingtonunited.org

Man, if "[B]ut they will soon learn there are consequences to their actions" isn't a thinly-veiled threat, I don't know what is. It's impossible not to read it in a Mafioso voice. Good job inspiring the Jared Loughners of the world, you guys. Very timely and responsible.
6
Ugh. Who ARE these people.
7
I really want them to try to get Ed Murray voted out of office. That train wreck would be very entertaining to watch. Ya think Capitol Hill gives a shit about YOUR god? Naw.
8
I'd be willing to bet that the number of closet cases in NOM exceeds even the Navy.
9
Why isn't NOM hammering the heterosexual nonchalant divorcers? Newt Gingrich with all his divorces is a threat to the sanctity of marriage, especially as he claims to be Catholic, not someone who wants and deserves legal recognition and rights of his or her vows for lifelong commitment. The NOM website's bigotry and double-standard are apparent.
10
Repeat after me: "out of state special interest group NOM"
11
A few years ago I would've worried that they might be able to pull it off here. But now?

Bring it on motherfuckers! I'd love to see them not even qualify for the ballot. But I'd really love to see them go down in fucking flames at the ballot box. A huge public trouncing would be so cool.

Maybe I'm overestimating right now because of the joy of yesterday...but I don't think so. I think we've turned a corner in Washington.
12
Use Prop 8 to beat the bejeebus out of these hate-fuckers. Let everyone who isn't a knee-jerk "no" understand that these are people from out of state who have no interest in the well being of the people of Washington state. That they are dropping money from people from out of state who have no interest in the well being of the people of Washington state.

Expose them. Expose their lies. Use the opportunity to discredit these people even further for the good of the next state that bravely promotes equality!
14
i think the bigots are going to lose this one. washington is much more libertarian on social issues than any other state that they have tried this shit in. and we've already beat their asses on everything BUT marriage. this is going to be a big loser for them & i think another big swing in the tide against anti-gay hate.
15
I deal with some fairly conservative people on a regular basis. Today I was expecting they would be batshit crazy over the approval of gay marriage. I heard nothing. I finally brought it up with one whom I can usually count on for religious justification of everything I can't stand. She shrugged her shoulders and said the idea of gay marriage really didn't bother her that much anymore and she understood that it was for custody of children and for benefits and inheritance. For once, I was the one left with my mouth hanging open in shock. I don't think NOM is going to get as much traction with WA State residents as they might think.
We'll see if the Mormon church decides to pull the same heavy-handed tactics as they did in California. I did not see any mention of the vote in WA in either the Salt Lake Tribune or the church's own tv station and news affiliate yet, but then they are just "breaking" with the Komen/PP story....
16
By "NOM" you mean the Cathaholic Church, their major funding source, right?
17
Repeat after me: "out of state special interest group NOM"
18
Hmm, as I write 17 posts here and no crazed Biblical quotations about eternal damnation. That tells me something.
19
@18:

Yeah, it tells you this ain't The Seattle Times comment section...
20
San Fran thought California was safe, too. Then the mormons and the catholics pooled their money from god only knows where (hahah) and all went to shit.

It's going to be a fight and we all need to get armored up.

Don't shrug it off.
21
National Organization for the Allegedly Monogamous Heterosexual Breeding Pair.
22
Pervert Fag Activist lobby? You're going to have to fight normal folks pretty hard before you ruin marriage for them. Yeah, in New York you could ignore the will of the people, but we're lucky here, we can overturn bad law by referendum. Expect NOM and every other group defending marriage from you fudge packing, rug munching deviants to spend lots of money and time helping us out in Washington.

See you at the end when we overturn this fucked up legislation perverts.
23
They don't know what they're in for. We're going to win this one.
24
I'm torn between confidence and putting on my battle armor.

I know in my heart that Washington state won't take shit from NOM. But we *should not take this lightly*.

A prospective Rob McKenna's Voter Guide pamphlet will cost little money and do a lot of damage for marriage equality alone. Jay Inslee likes posting on Facebook, but he's not out there AT ALL. Jay, hey, wake up or something. You only have a governor's race to lose.

Please donate to Washington United For Marriage and any other organization fighting the same fight.

Let your friends and family in this state know that if they sign some person's binder for "some marriage referendum", their name will be PUBLIC, and perhaps for a very wrong reason. Let pro-equality businesses know to watch out for signature gatherers this winter and spring.

Most importantly, please calmly ask any of your closeted friends to come out.. especially to family, if that situation is applicable. If they do so, it could make a big difference.

Only if *all of the above* happens, then we have a chance. I have hope all of the above will happen -- but we'll have to work our asses off to make this bill stick for good. It's completely worth it.

In the immortal words of the Pink Fairies: "DON'T THINK ABOUT IT. DO IT! DO IT!"
25
@20 is, sadly, correct. We can lose this easily.

Sure, the pro-marriage equality polled ahead by a few points in one recent poll. That does not mean it's a lock.
(1) Older people tend to be more consistent voters, and older people are the one voting block that polls against marriage equality.
(2) NOM is jumping in early, but the Mormons threw millions of dollars to defeat marriage in California, and they'll do it here too.
(3) Voters are fickle and easily manipulated. Negative campaigns work. You can count on this being a very negative campaign from NOM and the mormons.

This can easily go either way. All NOM has to do is throw out enough negative ads to shift the numbers a couple points to the no side, and my marriage does down in flames.

DO NOT BE COMPLACENT.
26
@22: You mad, brah?
27
I see NOM isn't mentioning that marriage equality will be on the ballot this year in Maine, and is expected to pass. Also, NOM is getting their heads handed to them in court over their involvement in Maine's last marriage equality battle.
28
People get ready...
29
I know you guys will see this today, but from yesterday:
http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/new…
This was completely heartbreaking for me.

Meanwhile, HRC is giving Goldman Sachs an honorary dinner. It's worth signing the petition against that.
30
Well, sorry for the double post. It's the article in rolling stone about gay teens in minnesota committing suicide. I worry about suicide clusters like that occurring, but reading about it is still important.
31
When the hell will they be forced to disclose their donors? They're already in violation of election laws in a whole bunch of states.

Can't someone get a restraining order on them pending the final Supreme Court case?
32
When you combine the fact that whoever is at the top of the ticket is going to be a disaster with the presence of marijuana legalization and a likely referendum on marriage equality, Rob McKenna has gotten quite a bit weaker based on factors that have nothing to do with him.
33
Checks can help, but winning will require all supporters to press the flesh statewide. Be ready to talk it up with your parents, your grandparents, and all their friends.

Oh, and all your cool, hipster, pierced, espresso -sipping Seattle friends? Make damn sure they're registered to vote, and make damn sure they vote on election day.
34
22, if your marriage is ruined, that's your own damn fault.
35
@33: You might want to avoid saying "press the flesh" in the context of gay marriage.
36
bring. it. on, bitches!
37
They sound like the anti-gay mafia. Little whi- ba ba have a prob prob with peepee on peepee?

Please wait...
